    Gamespy Patch Info

As most may have noticed by now, Gamespy has gone away. Epic will now be running it's own master server in house so you will need to update your game with this patch in order to play online. This is for the retail version of the game as the steam version will get the patch automatically if you have your game set to keep updated. While it is rather easy to set up, if anyone is unsure or needs some guidance please post here and we will try to help. Also if you encounter any issues, please post them here as well.
You will need to be patched to version 2.1(Patch 5) for this to work.

The patch will be more of a replacement UT3.exe than a patch in the traditional sense and once it's time to patch you will be able to download as a .zip file. We will merely be replacing the original UT3 executable in the binaries folder with the new one that will point you to the new master server rather than the Gamespy server. Just a matter of unzipping it and dropping it in place.

For example, I use Windows 7 64 bit so I navigate to, C:\Program Files (x86)\Unreal Tournament 3\Binaries, once there I simply drag and drop the new UT3.exe into the folder. When the screen pops up asking me what I would like to do, I select move and replace as my option. This will replace the old .exe file with the new one. If you are unsure about doing this manually, please use the RATTLEsn4k3 version posted below. You will now be directed to the new master server whenever you start your game.

Once you have the new .exe and go to log on it will tell you that username and password are wrong. You will need to recreate any and all of your usernames on the new master server as all of the ones you have registered on Gamespy will go away with Gamespy. You can use the same names as before and even the same passwords, you just need to have them registered on the new server now instead of Gamespy.

You will want to make sure that you are logged in as administrator on your PC when installing this patch, and when running the game. Not everyone has had issues related to this but it should be the first thing you check if you are having issues connecting or getting the game to patch. There is a way to ensure that the game is always ran with admin privileges, you can find info on that here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/m.../ff431742.aspx

For those of you that are unsure about doing this, RATTLEsn4k3 has turned this into a nice little executable for everyone to use that will patch it for you without the need to replace the original exe manually. You can get that here:

    http://www.mediafire.com/download/6j...PatchGS_21.exe

For those of you that wish to go ahead and patch your games manually, the guys over at FPS Hosting have offered to host it for us, you can get it here:

    http://www.fpshosting.net/games/UT3-gs-patch.zip

    It is also on gamefront:

Thanks to Zeytun for another host:

    http://utuniverse.com/fix/UT3-gs-patch.zip

This patch will also work with the steam version of the game if you wish to go ahead and use it also. Just have to go a little deeper to get to the original. Such as for me I had to go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Unreal Tournament 3\Binaries to get to mine in windows 7 64 bit. RATTLEsn4k3 has also made an auto patcher for the Steam version as well if you do not want update manually and are having issues with Steam doing it for you.

    Server Patches:
This will apply to servers as well, they will need to have the new .exe and all Gamespy usernames will need to be recreated or replaced in the command line as well. The larger server providers should be able to handle this for you but please contact your provider if you are unsure. In the event that you run your own server on your own box, you will need to patch this as well. There is a separate patch for servers

Nice. Some progess. But I got some questions.

What about stats (of retail users)? New account = new stats.
Couldn't epic just get in contact with Gamespy and get a dump of their sake storage.

Will stats be stored on Epic's server?

    What about "friends"?

What about the query interface on servers (port 6500) which is adressed by GameSpy? What happens to server monitor sites?

    What about Linux servers?

    What about the Non-Admin-Not-Listing-All-servers bug?

What about original aliases which are registered by a different user?
    What about fake aliases?

What happens with NAT (through Stun) for private servers?

What happens to the Subsystem (for coders)?

Why isn't it an official patch (installer) which just replaces the exe file...?

Stats are unfortunately gone. Gamepsy will not share that tech with Epic.

Stats will no longer be tracked.

      Friends will no longer function.

      Not sure.

      Worked for us.

      Never seen it.

No different now than ever before.

      Nothing that I know of.

Nothing that I know of, but I am not a coder.

When looking at the list of games that are being completely killed off by the loss of Gamespy, this is better than the alternative.

There will be no changes other than you will connect to the new master server.

All of your saved info will be gone. It will be as if it is your first time playing UT3.

Why did they do this? Preparation for the next coming UE?

              That's sad.

Technically, everything would have been possible by creating a hybrid solution before Gamespy ends it service. For example, a SubSystem replacement checks for the availability of GameSpy (by date or connection), if it's available it logs into the account. Once that login is succesful, the new subsystem send this keypair (username and password) to the new master server (Subsystem backend) and stores it. At the time Gamespy will be gone for good, the new subsystem will take place. There is no change in the user interface. Only the incredentials are sent to the new and validated by the previously stored ones. If such informatoin doesn't exist, the user will get the existing prompt to create a new user account. If the login is success (username and password matches), the master server (Epic's backend) checks if there is a Email address is attached to that user incredentials. If not, the server will get a prompt entering the new emails address (and optionally the master server sends a verification email to that one which requires the user to login again from a webbased login [through a token url]).

Every player who's login in with that new subsystem would keep their login and player stats and player indentity.

With that custom subsystem, the friends and message could have been sent to the new server from each client separately.

Also the stats can be dumped with such tool and probably integrated into the new master server allowing the stats working seamlessly.

I guess there could have been a small group of dedicated players/helper/coders which would have allow such seamless patch.

This is going to be a mess but I'm glad it is still alive.

Because Gamespy completely shuts down their online servers business on 31.05. This means pulling the plug on countless master-servers including all UT and Unreal games on PC.

who is bubbaxm2? & who makes this patch?

                    ...thanksfor saving the servers.
                    * what does this have to do with my own PC Server and PS3 Server?
                    - i thought gamespy has not been running for a while and the accounts you register are not real anyway?
                    Code:
                    CreateAccount.bat MyUserName MyPassword MyEmailAddr

                    utgame server <map?option?option> -seekfreeloading -login=MyUserName -password=MyEmailAddr
                    * Does this effect the other Unreal Games and Anthology?

This patch is only for UT3. As for what games are affected - all Unreal/UT games except Unreal 2 used gamespy for master-server. However for these it's matter of simple ini edit.

The first time I installed and launched UT3 in 2010, I was so excited! It was Christmas all over again! I had seen the screenshots of the game years before, and could only imagine what UT3 would be like on my upgraded PC. I hope to get back into the game someday, especially online. For me, it will be just like that first day again.

How about PS3 version? Is multiplayer for this version going to be unavailable after May 31st?

I am just another player that loves the game and offered to help since we all know Epic has other things on their minds right now. The patch was made by someone much more talented than me, that's for sure lol.
