I'm having a lot of problems with this patch. I have checked my UT3 (retail) is running 2.1, I extracted the new exe into Binaries and then... "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file..." - which would be because: It promptly disappears when I try to run the file! The same is true when trying to run it from a new desktop shortcut of the new exe. I'm on win 8.1 64-bit. The game runs just fine, before the patch is "applied" (proven, because if I reinstall the earlier 5 patch/Titan, the game works again)

Try renaming it to something like UT3patched, place in binaries, create a shortcut to desktop and try launching it from the desktop shortcut.

Edit:Sorry, I read so quick I didn't see you said retail.

You can also try removing the original exe first. Just cut it and put it in a new folder so you still have it, then put the new exe in the folder.

No good, thanks, although I no longer have to reinstall those patches to get back to where I started. Neither renaming the new exe, or running as administrator was successful.

That's a very odd issue, maybe someone using 8.1 can offer some insight if they had a similar problem.

But just to make sure, you are putting it in the binaries folder in your program files? I have to ask since others have tried putting it into the binaries folder in my documents/my games/UT3/Binaries.

I give up for now. I've created several new ids and passwords along with their respective profiles on the master server, and beer drinkers still won't show up in the browser.

It's back on gamespy for now. Thanks for your help!

Sounds like an AntiVirus software has hooked the starting process. Whitelist the file.

It works fine in 8.1 as long as they are in the appropriate folder.

Norton was doing this to me. Avast and Macafee confirmed the file was ok so I granted it access and all is well.

Yeah as I said a few pages back I uploaded it to Virus Total and all came back clean. I had a problem with smart screen but I also had it in the wrong folder at first.

If your using norton mcafee or avast then you have problems right there lol.

I installed the new patch....for those who haven't noticed....the file comes blocked via the download....probably something related to my security (I have Norton)....right click on the file and "Unblock". Bam!

Separately....I can join the VCTF and Warfare servers....but when I try joining any Greed server, it gets stuck and says "Connecting" and won't do anything else....need advice on this!

Are you using the internet explorer that came with Win8? It is specifically the IE version in Win8 that makes you click the unblock button. Firefox and Chrome shouldn't.

The patch seems to work, I created a new account and logged into Warfare #2. Hoping this gamespy debacle doesn't kill the game.

I tried getting the zip file off a couple of the host sites, put the ut3.exe in the same binary spot as the last one, I have the dvd retail version. whenever I try to run it I'm told I don't have the steam_api.dll file necessary, it is not a steam game so odd situation.
                              C:\Program Files (x86)\Unreal Tournament 3\Binaries
that is where my original install was made and where I put the new .exe file, I tried moving my windows binary file over and changing the name but that didn't work so I undid it, any ideas?

It's been said elsewhere, but remember: if you can't see servers in the in-game browser, you can use Qtracker as an alternative.
