    Specs on Epic Greed #1

I am at wits end when it comes to the lag on the Official Epic Greed server #1. People assume I have none at my low ping but it's terribly unplayable at very odd times. 3 people on? I don't get it with 3 people on. One person has a low ping and the other a 220 and then it feels like I'm at a 220 ping. It makes no sense. I'm sure it's network related. I have decent specs for UT3, i7 920 @ 3.8Ghz GTX 670.. 1920x1080 settings on low.. i can go on and on about my other specs but it's beating a dead horse into the ground. What is the tic rate of the server? What are it's hardware specs?

Something is not right about that server

In F10 type stat net, "In Packets" is the tick rate.

Currently the Epic Greed is 30 tick.

      Server plays fine for me.
Check your hops, it could be your ISP

There are times when my pings go up to 200+ but it's usually because someone else in the house is downloading torrents and forgot to throttle the upload bandwidth. If you live in an area that has communal internet I'd start looking there, especially if your ISP locks you at a low upload bandwidth. I don't know how or why it happens, but when we hit our max upload speed, our download speed is throttled back to dial-up speed.

Oddly enough this has become a larger problem in some of the newer subdivisions near me. Time Warner apparently gave new neighborhoods enough bandwidth for 4 or 5 houses.....during peak times or when 4 or 5 houses are all downloading at the same time everyone else is screwed.

Are there any monitoring programs that can help me out?

You should try Ping Plotter and/or WinMTR. Both are good monitoring programs because they show you where the bad hops are, among other things.

            Edit: And because they're free.

              elevated cmd prompt? ping 8.12.17.12

I have low ping and often feel laggy in greed, sometimes warfare. Maybe you should play at oldys more :+)

Thanks for the plug, my server tick rate is 80 tick so its pretty awesome feeling. And I haven't had a complaint yet about the ping. I am fixing the redirect issue as we speak, only half the maps were on the redirect its hooked up to and I'm actually uploading the rest as I'm typing this. LONG LIVE VCTF!

There is a registry setting that can improve server performance specifically for when high ping players come into the server.

"SizReqBuf represents the size of the raw receive buffers within a server environment. This means that it will affect your ability to host something in a high-latency environment. Let’s say you host a gameand tons of people complain about lag. Modifying this value will help reduce the impact of lag."

                    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\LanmanServer\Parameters

"Add “SizReqBuf” as a DWORD value on the right hand side of the regedit window. If you have a server with over 512 MB of physical memory, modify the value to 17424. If you have less than 512 MB of memory, you should consider getting a new computer, but you can modify this value in the meantime to 4356."

The server felt terribly laggy last night.
