Why did Microsoft not allow modding Unreal Tournament 3 for XBOX 360 ?

    Hey,

As we all know,Unreal Tournament 3 can be modded for PS3.
But why did Microsoft not allow modding Unreal Tournament 3 for XBOX 360 ?
What's the story behind that ?

wrong place to ask, and its because ms didnt want the system open to modding. makes for a less secure system(should someone even be able to do anything with buffer overflow anyway on xbox) just like they didnt allow you to use your own devices and you had to use overexpencive memorycards if you didnt have a harddrive untill recently

But do you feel that Microsoft should in fact open up more to the modding community ?

not really consoles don't need mods, creates too many inconsistencies. microsoft already let up with xna to make your own games, and developers don't have all the time in the world to add a modding backend to games. i cant see many games it would work for tbh

They also have to protect the reputation of the console in the same way Epic Games would not allow anyone to create a game named and centered around "Unreal Tournament" with the UDK and release it for free.

Their rigorous process to get games published on their console combats such shovelware and potential harms to the system itself. Mods would be a way to slide past that.

Because they don't like us messing around with their stuff, even on Biowares forums they warn us about modding(they allow us to and even give links to the tools to do so in stickied threads) even though its a single player game we are modding

Microsoft couldn't make money off it.

maybe because its a different console?
                    - might not have been so easy...

                    - and crazy has a good point:

                    - microsoft would want to charge for content:
and as we release our mods and maps for free - microsoft probably got pissy.

I cannot imagine japan getting on board with nintendo and epic either.

I think Mike Capps once described the Wii as a virus. And I don't feel like arguing about what he said.

The story is that if you want things like mods and custom content, you should become a PC gamer. Part of PC gaming is the freedom to be able to create and download custom content and to have unrestricted online multiplayer. In contrast, console gaming is about low-quality eye-candy-filled disposable games intended to be played by kiddy cash cows.

What's sad is that the influence of consolization is destroying much of PC gaming. Pretty soon they'll want to start charging PC gamers money to play online and they won't allow mods and custom maps.

This started happening in 2009, continues to get worse each year.

That's the reason why the majority of us call it Micro$oft.......................

If Linux would support all the games that Windows supports I would use Linux...
