Well when you find one be sure to let me know. I do a ton of arena FPS soul searching and I always come back to UT3. Blacklight Retribution is pretty good though.

Games like UT3 with very high skill ceilings have a very hard time attracting new players in an era of easy to play games like Call of Duty and Halo.

When recommending Nexuiz perhaps it should be made clear whether or not you are referring to the classic or 2012 version of it.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nexuiz
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nexuiz_(2012_video_game)

One is free and open source, quake engine and the other is closed and CE3 engine.

Needless to say the free version, Nexuiz classic, is better.

1- Completely free of charge, open source and obv. any sort of DRM-free
2- Built on Quake 2 engine, but with a 2012 feel
3- Advanced modding capabilities, great PC support
4- Fast paced action reminiscent of the Quake universe, advanced movement system borrowing from Unreal Tournament

Need I say more? Besides UT3 and Quake Live, it's the only thing that puts a smile on the face.

I've heard great things about NS 2 as well. I was gifted a copy on steam. I'll have to try it out this weekend.

I'm loving the game Gotham City Impostors which just came out for PC, PS3, and Xbox. Its 6vs6 multiplayer, CTF/TDM/DOM type gametypes, dedicated server support coming, with RPG elements.. The player movement abilities in this game are awesome and it plays very much like an arena shooter. $15 dollar regular price on Steam. IMO its like a mix of Brink, TF2, and arena shooter with crazy player movement possibilities..

The only thing I dont like is GFWL.

Tribes: Ascend is pretty good, but I do NOT like the grindy perks system. You have to unlock everything or buy them.

I would have preferred a straight $30 game without all that perks stuff.

Despite that, the game itself is very fun, and definitely feels like Tribes.

yeah it is very open and thats what I like about it the whole freedom of movement thing. BUT you can fight indoors and down closed hallways. I have played many matches where thats all certain ppl did. We would have our own indoor battle going on while others chased after the flag. It might be appealing to some people who likes going titan and spamming rockets down a hallway in lost cause.

When I went unto the options menu with tribes and saw mouse smoothing unticked by default, I wanted to jump and down with joy.

Finally a developer that gets it!
