b) only stereo with headphones is of course not sufficient.
"Of course" can be used when something is obvious to all parties, or, if it isn't, when you want to come off as self-righteous to the others. Since many posters don't seem to agree with you, it's gotta be option B, no?

If you read the comments of certain persons here as real opinion, ok. I was reading them as flames/lame_jokes. So YOU think that stereo without CMSS is enough?
From pure theory I would have thought that the information in the two dimensionsabove-below andahead-behind is missing without CMSS
I remember a much earlier thread where everybody was writing "CMSS, CMSS, CMSS!" And they wrote that even 5.1 headsets are not really a good option compared with CMSS. So ... and now we are talking about stereo. Its got a little bit confusing.
I hope those mkII's are larger than the mkI. If not having very small ears is a must unless you want to game in constant PAAAAAIN.
I know you from the game. You are a very skilled player and hopefully not a joker as some above.... What do you think: Is just stereo really enough, without CMSS? Or is a 5.1 headset a good option?
At moment I have the Razor Carcharias headset, very comfortable.
Latest idea I had was maybe an external X-Fi. Somebody has experience with that?
My thoughts were: So I would have true CMSS, which could be a) better than 5.1 headsets b) probably lighter and therefore more comfortable than a 5.1 headset.
I "only" have a stereo headset, and it's well enough for me. I don't play duels though, so you should probably get your advice from someone else
Yeah, thats it. I played many warfares with you. When I wrote about the footsteps and localization, I was firstly thinking about "Rising Sun". I would say that since CMSS last year that map became easier, but maybe it was just my increased experience. Have to test it myself I guess, with and without CMSS. But I cant test a 5.1 headset, since I dont have such a headset.
All I know for sure is this: Since I have my Carcharias, I dont use my 5.1 Logitech Z-5500 anymore. Its a very good surround system, but not worth the trouble to set up the loudspeakers every time I want to play.
I've come to the conclusion you should follow your intuition and get the external X-Fi. It will prove of incalculable value in the long run, and you'll be pinning down those so subtle uncompressed audio sound cues that UT3 provides.
