    UT3 for linux officialy dead

    They say here.

I guess most of us already had this bad feeling that it was not going to happen.

I even forgot about that (since I use Windows for playing games) and I even thought that they already said that this would not happen.
    Well, now they did.

              Yes it's sad but,
even though you can still play some Windows game on Linux with wine. I dont know if wine can play UT3 on Linux with wine but I heard it's possible.

I know this is a little late, but I was just browsing around since I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 to make my computer a dual-boot solution and and was wondering if UT3 would be ported to Linux.

And what the hell? Something that could be a flagship title that could/would help people that want to make the complete switch to a Linux distro isn't going to be ported over because..... "the UT3 Linux client isn't going to happen."

What? Why? You don't feel like it? Is that it? I call B.S. Epic has the manpower, everyone knows that. They're a top-tier game development company and they're unable to do this?

Now don't get me wrong.... I'm a fan of their work. I have been ever since I was 17/18 and got the original UT. Good times, good times. I'm not going to put out some dumb statement like, "demo or no buy" or "support FOSS or I'm boycotting." I have nothing against Windows being a platform that people use for their gaming habits. However.... choices! Why are people being locked down to one particular system? The ONLY thing that's preventing me from going 100% open-source is game support. Seriously. Everything I could want to do in Windows can be done in Linux and yet..... is someone being paid off? Are they going to lose monetary support from the Microsoft games division if they dev for something that could directly compete against the Windows platform?

Sigh. I really, really like the graphical direction that UT3 took. I don't play games in any competitive sense, mainly just for fun. I think it's a really fun game. Soooo.... why? Why can't/won't people be given the choice to run it natively instead of having to deal with WINE and reduced performance?

Bit of a rant, yes, but I feel it's justified. Then there's the whole "demos for consoles and not pc, when pc users gave Epic their start in the business" bit, but that's for another time and thread.

What are the chances of the "was being worked on" code base I wonder? Seems a shame to let the work that went into it go completely to waste, from the screen shots it looked pretty well along in development.

Probably figured they couldn't make any $$ from it and it only stood to increase calls to their support department, so they made a business call. Still a shame to have it go to complete waste though....
