As I said I do not like much those custom maps with every weapon and amps everywhere since most of the time the best weapon with U damage + berserk is the stinger... and guess what thats what everyone are using.. so it is kind of boring.
The fact is that there are a lot of player playing those maps but they would get owned in regular maps. Trust me.
@JohnDoe641 : Thanks dude!
Of course they are not regular DM maps. Weapons, ammo, and pickups are everywhere, so no real need to even know the map or even locations of pickups, takes that whole part out of it. They are mostly wide open maps, like vCTF or WAR with not many close or tight areas.
I'm pretty sure he was talking about the terrible ones in the first place, ie. "those custom maps with every weapon and amps everywhere."
This.
I'm fine with custom maps as long as there aren't every weapon and every amps everywhere.
I think I played UT99 a while ago (offline for fun) when I was younger and didnt know much about playing online and the competitive community
Anyway I started a year ago to play FPS with UT3 on the PS3... I mean playing a lot online. And I got this new computer a week ago!
EDIT: There are a lot of custom maps but wich one are the most used by the community? Maybe a pack?
Look for the UT3 HOLP map packs... I think there are 3 of them. Not all of their maps are played much online, but they're all high quality, and several are quintessential duel maps.

Lot's of map packs. The HOLP is one of them and the community packs. Many more maps out there as well.
I was actually referring to a member who is constantly bashing ut3 but still comes to these forums
Are you referring to me?
I like to come here so that Epic and other people can hear a voice in favor of PC gaming and of having a non-consolized UT4. There are still a great many fans of the original UT99 and UT 2004 who were very disappointed with UT3 and who are hoping for a bona-fide sequel to UT99 and also UT 2004. I played UT3's Warfare game for a couple months and was even a member of one of the early clans, so I think I'm entitled to discuss it.
My advice for the original poster in this thread is to give UT99 and UT 2004 a try. If he enjoys Warfare he'll probably enjoy UT 2004's Onslaught game, which often has a packed server offering hordes of custom maps.
Personally I dislike the other two ut's myself. Weapons feel like nerf guns, ut99 "feels" slower(I always play on servers with dodge jump mutator in ut3) and ut04 feels too floaty and everything but LG, shock and Flak seems to be useless, at least in TAM.
You're entitled to your likes and dislikes. I suspect that if you had started out with UT99 back in 2000 that you would see things differently and might also appreciate the benefits of a game's being popular and of its having tens of thousands of players (tons of custom content, a vast variety of filled servers 24/7, active clans and leagues, numerous active communities).
I like to judge the UT games based on player counts at fixed times after each game's release. (Say, compare UT99 two years after its release to UT 2004 two years after its release and to UT3 two years after its release.) When you do that you will discover that UT99 was by far the most popular and successful UT, that UT 2004 did OK for itself, and that UT3 had very low player counts in comparison to both UT99 and UT 2004. To paraphrase NBA player Rasheed Wallace ("the ball doesn't lie"), in the case of PC games I think that, "the long-term player counts don't lie".
Let me finish by saying that going from UT99 or UT 2004 to UT3 was like going from a loaded Lexus to a stripped down economy car if not a Yugo. The first two felt like legitimate PC games (which they were) whereas the user interface and server browser in UT3 felt like a consolized abomination. There's no excuse as to why a new and improved version of a game should be substantially inferior to previous versions just as newer car models should be improved over earlier models.
You say the other games have a higher population yet in UT04 I couldn't find a single DM server that had a good player:bot ratio. I could only find one ONS server and it was running some **** with overpowered plasma tanks and redeemers everywhere.
UT99 I just don't like. QuakeLive feels more faster and more responsive to my input. I can't tell if I am making combos or not because the shock primary impact also makes a shockwave type animation. Also triprox **** me off in ut3, let alone ut99's hexarox. I mean, six rockets, really. That's just over the top.
The UI is fine (which seems to be your main case vs ut3 as it's what you mention the most). Not perfect but it works. And you can always hit F10 and type a command if you don't want to navigate it. Yes before "Black Edition" the UI was really bad, with no real options for customising the graphics. But they fixed that. There is also that mod to improve it further. On top of this you spend less than 0.5% of your total time using the UI. All the casual gamers I know who use to play ut99 and ut04 liked ut3 just as much. They no longer play, but they only played the first 2 for 1 or 2 years also.
I think UT3 did badly for the exact same reason Quake4 has no players. People don't like change.
As for the population of the 2 games 2 years after release, you can't do that comparison fairly. UT99 never had to please fans of a previous version nor did it have as many games to compete with.
yeah I don't have much time to play so I only play for about ..an hour at most... **** that thing called life lol I'm usually on anytime after 10pm eastern (if I'm on). Finally upgraded my pc and got UT3 for this pc so I gotta get used to it again.
