If you want to time weapons, try doing what the duelers do and come up with travel routes for any given map. I don't duel but perhaps planning a route with at least one hitscan weapon, a more splashy weapon, and maybe at least 50 "health" in the form of vials and armor might be a reasonable route. Also, consider that if a weapon/item is not in place and you have not picked it up, then your opponent must have taken the item some length of time ago lower than the item's respawn time.

          This is what I do.

Run around the map and shoot things until someone wins!

If you notice, it's not a duel-specific guide. And amp is obviously used in TDM.

Pretty much like the armor pick ups and power ups. For example I'm duelling a lot with a buddy of mine and he's totally dependent on the Shock Rifle. So I always try to get the Shock Rifle on the map. Later he insisted on playing normal Deathmatch instead, because he's not good on map controlling at all and he hates that I always take away the ASMD. xD Of course this is not so easy to do on larger maps, let's say Deck for example, where you even have multiple spots for the same weapon. I guess it would be best to practice this on Sentinel, which seems to be quite a good 1on1 map.

However, I remember seeing you in some Warfare matches and you seem to be pretty good. I'm still a total UT3/Warfare n00b (started playing UT3 a couple of weeks ago), but I've played all the other Unreal games, so I have some experience. Still Warfare is the most complex and strategic gametype in Unreal yet, so if you know all the drills and tricks there, I'm absolutely positive that you can easily learn how to play a proper 1on1. Good aiming and movement help a lot, but defensive playing and timing all the power ups (and important weapons) are the key to winning. Just practice.

And don't compare this with "1on1" fights you had in VCTF or Warfare. It's not like you're focusing on the man fights there anyway, there's way too much distraction in these modes and the ping tends to be higher. And if you're fighting as/against an orb/flag-carrier, in these fights one of the combatants wants to reach a specific spot on the map, which is always a disadvantage.
+1 Sentinel is really suitable for Duel mode. All stuff are placed wisely and suited to the map.You can gain experience there.

I don't like the map because you can easily control the weapons and you just spawn rape.

Honestly I wouldn't mind a few changes to a game that is in coma, what in fact I don't like is watering down. If someone wants to make changes so that there's easier access, I just want to get something skillful in return. No particular example comes to mind though

Actually its probably like that if you don't know how to play duel very well and if your playing against someone good. Sentinel is the best beginner's duel map.

Are you saying im bad at dueling?

I may only play 2 days a week but I consider myself average.

                      FYI
I don't think you're good either. I am more than welcome to duel you to prove it. ;-)

I think I_LIVE is right. Sentinel is spawnrape and weapon control only. You are able to control the whole map from the shock rifle spawn...

I think he was just making the point that's Sentinel's only spawn rape when there's a significant difference in skill between the two players. If you're the one getting spawn raped, then yes, he probably just called you bad at dueling.

What would happen if you reduced the respawn times of weapons to 20 seconds or less? Wouldn't that stop total map control?
