Help with 360 split screen?

Just got an xbox 360 with UT3, and I cant get split screen to work, book says I need two signed in profiles, any one care to explain how i go about getting this set up? bottom corner of the game screen it always says my profile name, Not signed in.

Create an offline profile in the Xbox360 Hub. You already have one, so create another for player 2.

Then, load up UT3 and select the corresponding profile for player 2. Make sure you have a separate controller to set up player 2.

I'm not entirely familiar with Xbox 360, but I do have some experience with it. If all else fails, hit the big green button with an X in it. Sometimes that helps.
