    ATI Radeon 5870 loves UT3

    I've been playing UT3 for a while now. All on my E8400 on 3.6Ghz. The graphics and framerates were ok on my Nvidia 8800GT, I was able to play with slightly better graphics on my ATI 4890 but now I'm able to max out everything on my 5870. Highest settings on everything, 4xAA 8xAF. I'm loving it. I also noticed that the UT3 menu's load faster, the maps load faster and if there are framedrops, they aren't as HUGE as before.

    So if you're a socket 775 user who's having doubts between upgrading the entire platform ( ex. Core i7 ) or just the GPU, upgrade the GPU.

        Copy pasted from the HOC benchmark thread:
        The benchmark started at 11/9/2009 9:45:12 AM

        System Information
        Operating system: Windows 7 Ultimate
        System memory: 4095 MB
        CPU: AMD Phenom(tm) II X3 710 Processor
        CPU speed: 3450 MHz
        Graphics card: - 0 MB ATI HD5870 1GB
        Benchmark Information
        Benchmark type: Flyby
        Demo: vCTF-Corruption
        Motion Blur: Disabled
        Hardware Physics: Disabled
        Anisotropic filtering: 16×

        --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

        Resolution: 1920×1080 (HD WideScreen)
        Score = 207 FPS
        Score = 208 FPS
        Average score = 207 FPS

        Resolution: 1280 × 720 (Custom)
        Score = 274 FPS
        Score = 279 FPS
        Average score = 276 FPS

        Not bad for only one HD5870. I'll post more benches with overclocks, and I'll add some AA as well.

        EDIT: Sorry I benched the map we all did at first, now I'll do the right one. lol.

        Strange that it appears that this map was CPU bottlenecked. Which is exactly what I thought would happen, but why only this map, and not corruption? Strange. Oh BTW, let the flames rise. lol

          Nice thing n enjoy ur new vga ...still...even if i can (n i can) play ut3 with better settings i prefer low settings,some ini tweaks n some exceptions(like distortion).Apart the fact of better visibility,i really like the maps better .I found em too dark with high settings.

            Out of curiosity, how are you setting AA and AF? Is it via the ATI control panel?

            Also, IDD. If you are on a budget and want to avoid a platform upgrade, definitely go for a new GPU. GPU upgrades > CPU/RAM upgrades in general.

              I force 4xAA and 8xAF with ATI CP.

                ATi's new cards are undeniably better in performance. However ATi's drivers just plain suck

                  I haven't had any problems so far. They have improved grately. Just download, install and 30 seconds later the driver is up-to-date and all my settings are still there. If you compare with a year ago, you had to remove old driver, download and install new driver and then reboot PC.

                    hey Roger; coming from a sli of 8800gt to a sli of 9800GTX i have exactly same feeling....looks like a new game...dunno if it s really a ATI/Nvidia problem or even a card difference.....imho the good result comes from a nice compatibility card/driver/ut3....long hours to hunt/test the best driver( especially on 8800gt) and probably some luck to find the right one.......
