When you alt-fire the Redeemer, your controller is detached from your pawn and attached to the missile (which is also a pawn), so you do literally become the redeemer as far as the game is concerned.

im not sure, cause u lose health when u "are" the manta. scorp and rockets for example

If you want to get technical, when you enter a vehicle, you actually become that vehicle. Least I think that's how the engine works.
