If you want to get technical, when you enter a vehicle, you actually become that vehicle. Least I think that's how the engine works.

I think he was referring to the internal mechanics of the game, where a player consists of two parts: a "controller" that processes input, and a "pawn" that is the visible presence in-game. When you alt-fire the Redeemer, your controller is detached from your pawn and attached to the missile (which is also a pawn), so you do literally become the redeemer as far as the game is concerned.
