Decent gameplay (play fair)

These rules are well known. The admins make a good effort to promote a friendly environment for new guys, but they are valid for their servers only. They are not THE rules. I believe we all agree with the generic "be kind, don't use racism, don't cheat", but the gameplay related are restrictive for me and a reason to rarely play on those servers.

- Don't portal camp, lift camp, suicide in team games or deliberately spawnkill.

I don't portal camp, but I will suicide and spawnkill as I see fit. Suiciding and respawn full health and loaded is sometimes the best thing to do when low on health, far away from the action, before grabbing an orb or escorting the carrier, etc... About spawnkilling, I don't get a kick out of it and will not go for cheap frags, but you bet that if my team is fighting on one location I will spawn kill on the previous one if it's adequate. Giving up of a tactic due to scrub kind of reasons is benefiting the opponent team and is playing against mine. You bet that having a team turn against itself *****ing about noobs and orbs is much worse that having the kind of solidarity that comes from uniting efforts when in serious disadvantage like facing the tank on Torlan or a Titan at the base on Confrontation.

- Sitting on the flag with a vehicle in VCTF maps is not allowed.

I see why this generically makes sense. But I'm afraid that it includes taking cover on Suspense if being harrassed by a raptor. Or doing so 2 minutes before the end if we were 1-0 and outnumbered. And maybe a few others.

I never seen you in there... why is that?

I guess he has better places to play, he'd ping 200 or so on those servers.

Of course.. i called it a glimpse remember?

And nope... i play there with ping 45 so its great.

Again this is just an example rule book which i quite like... it results in nice pleasent gameplay action with a lot of thrills... hardly any whines and even new commers find it pleasent there.

Of course this is only for the multiplay servers... did i say? Come onnnnn... wake up

But to give a glimpse, in case u really do not have a clue:

Rules applying to all Unreal games.
• Show respect for your fellow players. Promote fair and friendly play.
• Don't unbalance teams, or team in non-team games.
• Don't portal camp, lift camp, teamkill, abuse bugs, suicide in team games or deliberately spawnkill.
• Do not use religious, racist or abusive nicks or language and keep swearing to a minimum. Try not to be too easily offended.
• NO cheating. You'll be banned for life and your IP and other information publicised on IRC, these forums and our websites. We also share cheater information with other admins and will ban you if found cheating elsewhere too. Zero tolerance for cheats.
• Please don't advertise, tell other players to leave, kickvote or call an admin without good reason or get in a flame war on our servers. This extends to political attacks and ranting. That's just rude. Also, don't persist in calling other players cheaters without proof - if you suspect somebody of cheating, call an admin.
• The newbie server is ONLY for players new to the game. If you're winning too easily, move up to the open servers.

If you need an admin at any time, say '!admin' in-game or come to #mpukunreal on Quakenet and do the same.

UT3 Specific rules:
• Exploiting of any kind is not allowed. (Including vehicle exploits)
• Camping is allowed anywhere on the map except spawn locations.
• Sitting on the flag with a vehicle in VCTF maps is not allowed.

Everyone has their own rulebook. SCRUBS have one too, their rules define who and what they are. Server admins can have any rules they want, it's their server. If you do not like a server admins rules, play elsewhere.

Here are examples of some SCRUB rules;
-> No defending (camping) the flag with vehicles in vCTF (Duh, why not just kill the vehicle?)
-> Any rule that limits what you do or how you use any legitimate movement, weapon, pickup, or vehicle in any way (the only exception is exploits are never permitted)

This is the version of rules in use by myself many others;

No Cheating (bots, hacks, or other software)
Do Not Use Glitches
Listen to Server Admins
Respect Other Players

Beyond that, there are only 2 rules of play;

Rule#1 -> There are no rules.

Rule #2 -> There is only one rule, see rule #1

Bashing noobs is a fact of PC gaming.
When I started to play Quake 2 (Pre-UT99) I got owned by better players, that's what made me better as a player.
Which is also why Epic penalizes you heavily for bashing on noobs via the ranking system.
Only the strong survive.
And as others have mentioned, those rules apply to that server. In which case most servers have their own rules that need to be adhered to.
That's great that server fits your idea of "Fair play" but on other servers, those rules can be constricting (EG: what you call camping others may call defending).
Seriously, if you're having trouble with getting a vehicle off the flag, then it's time to go back and play the bots on a harder setting.

This is allot of trouble to avoid getting owned by better players.
If you want to set your bar so low that you as a player suffer, so be it, that's your prerogative. But for others, they may find getting owned useful to them so they can learn how to be a better player.
It's actually rather biased to try put Noobs in a class of their own. I've seen many players go from noob to decent player BECAUSE they played better players and got owned all the time. now they're the ones doing the owning.
That's the last thing this community needs is another reason to separate players.
And I noob bash if there's a group of noobs within rocket range heh
As I once got bashed, I so too will do the bashing of the noobs, it's a rite of passage for a gamer.
