This is why I don't bother with linux, many years ago (2001, if I remember right) I spent the best part of two days building a Linux system(it did get easier), which I must admit I totally enjoyed doing.
there I was with this os which was very nice, so I then started getting and loading device drivers, to find to my horror, that most of the hardware I had did not have drivers under Linux, I was told don't worry, they are there, or under development you just have to find them or wait a few weeks...
well I looked and waited and eventually a nice guy posted the drivers I needed...cool
only to find...yeah they kinda work, after a fashion, you know not fully funtional beta drivers...
I took the drive out and thought, well its there when I find the drivers, new HD and installed windows...
the drive I took out with Linux installed, sat on the shelf for three years then I gave up looking, its still there and I kept the system I built it on...you know just in case...geez
windows any version the drivers were there ready to use, so I did, and still do.
and you know what, I don't mind buying a new MS os, I got them all from Dos 2.1 and yes I paid for each one... and they all did what they said on the box.
yes Linux is free and yes if you don't mind waiting a short while...dum de dum... Linux support is there, some nice guy or gal will write the driver or installer if you wait long enough...
oh yeah those drivers I was looking for, still beta... version 4 (2004, I tried those) smiles
