for some reason when I've played on servers with ping compensation it was even worse, actually unplayable. I think if you choose the right server you can get pings around 30-100 usually, at least in my area.

Get more server admins to run utcomp and enable lag compensation and most problems are fixed.

That's the worst reply ever. Not every person is able to get a fast connection for many various reasons. Besides, distance and routing from ISP to server is most important factor. Take me as an example, I live in Finland and UT3 servers are almost non-existant here and most are from UK and the lowest possible ping I can have to UK servers is 70 for example but mostly it's a bit above that too (and warfare typically 85 - 100). To finnish servers I would have 15 - 30 ping, about 25 - 35 to swedish, 50 - 65 typically for german servers etc (Now talking Deathmatch 12 ~ 20 players on good servers). Now you're probably gonna say but 70 is low enough too. Sure it's low enough to play for public servers and such but if you for example play against better players or participate in say ClanBase 1on1 cups, 70 vs 40 ping for example is a matter of win or lose to me. Good player's hitratio improves almost linearly with ping amount, at least for me it does and against good players your movement cannot always make up for the ping disadvantage even if you try to suprise them with random rocket spam etc.

So in that matter the thread title is spot on, if you're a good player and playing competitively, lag is the REAL enemy. It's kind of sad to see people on public with 10 ping that cannot hit for ****, if I'd have 10 ping, I'd get accused for aimbot...

Also it's a shame UK is kind of a default server location. Germany would be a lot better choice for default server park location as it's quite in the middle of europe.

Aha, Epic Warfare Servers - dedicated.
    Serenity, Avalanche with 32 players.
It's my fault that I get lag?
    Forget it...

    Movement is interpolated clientside.

You press a button and move in that direction instantly. The others see you moving later.

Has been like that forever, so nothing new with UT3.

You cant understand that you move slower sometimes. The other players (lowerpingers) can see it. Sometimes i can see myself dodge roxx n 1 sec later i get the "you died" msg.

What we see its not what others see. In ut2k4 was the same. After the US server (..or any hig ping one) try a map in instant action. You can tell the difference.

Btw in the US server at 230 ping (the one we played nightmare) i dont get as much pl as the EU servers. Strange.

Well... today i've played a match whith a ping of 400-500... And still got 21 kills with the impact hammer lol

Unfortunately recently i got a problem with pings... the best ping i can get now is 175+... in this case i stay away from Snipers and Shock Rifles (Depends on the situation of other players).. With high pings i would recommend using weapons with wide affective radious.. such as Rocket Launcher, Flak Cannon and the Stinger Minigun (with stinger you gotta know where to aim).

I'm not that good though... but i deal with what i get

There is lag, movement on high ping servers is terrible, and I can feel it immediately. Sometimes you'll even get the occasional 'dud' dodges, where you will dodge but server will bump you back to original location. You will also get hit by rockets which you already evaded, etc.

Yes but as said, I don't get the logic of this netcode.
I played on an official UT3 Warfare server some hours ago (USA).
    My ping was 230.
The movement was fully okay (same as offline).
But everything else was extremely delaying.
    Why is not all delaying?
If movement (jumping, running etc.) works perfectly, why do not shooting and other things work perfectly as well?

I get delay. Playing with low ping i feel my movement much faster. Faster response times.

    I have a small question.
Can anyone describe why the normal movement (running, crouching, jumping) is fully lag-free (no delay) in online matches?
I mean these information must be sent to the server as well.
However, shooting, getting on hoverboard ect. all these things have a delay.
That does not seem completely unified.
Even the crouching on the hoverboard has a delay, compared to the normal crouching which has no delay.

What i meant is that you can still win even if you are in a clear disadvantage. I like to play in more crowded servers. 4vs4 to 8vs8 is funniest to me, because there is more teamplay than in more crowded games, in which there are usually plenty of low ping snipers doing vtdm (against which i can't compete).
Luckily there are a couple of servers i always play on, in which there are kind players with which you can talk ingame.
The shot in my previous post was a game i jumped in, expecting to find friendly people... As i entered, my teammate started shooting at me and changed to the other team. Both started trying to kill me continuously and didn't answer to anything i kindly said to them, so i decided to cap flags so they would realise that was vctf and not vtdm.
I can also say that i didn't enjoy that game very much. I most enjoy when i play with other players such as UNREALWORLD, S3ko, McGizzle, Dannozz or Fijut. Most of them usually own me, but they also offer great teamplay when we are teammates, and most important, they are fun people to have laughs with, even when you lose.
Anyway, back to the topic. I don't actually play deathmatch because of my high ping. But there are other gamemodes like vctf or war, in which you can still do it well because ping is not so important (although it still helps). Anyway, high ping will help you to improve your skills so you will own at LAN with your friends.

    @hi-ban:
Well hi-ban, no offence but a beginner has still no chance against an advanced player even if his ping is pretty better.
Even players (two beginners or two advanced players) would be a good example.
The guy with the lower ping has definitely an advantage.
If he can use his advantage is another topic.
Moving shock combos, shooting while running - all those things are simply easier with a lower ping.
The main problem with high ping is:
If it's always different (sometimes 100, then 150 etc.), you always have to find the hitbox.
And that's annoying during a fight.
