For all of you complaining about UT3's netcode, clearly you have never played Halo online...

I'll play on a T1 if you want to pay for it.

I could care less about ping as long as it's less than 200. And I don't need you to tell me if it's ok for me to enjoy it or not.

But seriously, I understand a lot of people get their kicks obsessing about things like this. If you want to spend your money that way, great. I'm sure it's a big thrill for you to get that absolute minimum ping.

Please stop giving out information that is based on ill-informed opinions. A faster connection does not necessarily mean less lag. As long as your connection can send and receive packets fast enough it doesn't matter what your speed is. Cable versus DSL is very area dependent... meaning that in some cases cable will be better and in other cases DSL will be better... it all depends on the infrastructure and service provider. More than often DSL will be more stable and less prone to fluctuations which could cause connection issues. I went from a fast cable connection to a slower DSL connection and not only did my ping and gameplay experience remain the same but stability increased.

So it all comes down to where you choose to play. What do you expect Epic Games to do about it?

I am not saying the net code can't be improved, but it already has been in 2.0, the concensus seemed to be that it was 10x better... yet people still complain, and probably always will because there will always be some player who gets the bum end of the stick.
So nothing doesn't add up except in your imagination. It is as we've said: There are solutions for high ping players, high lag players or whatever you want to say. Including one that Wormbo has gone to the trouble of creating - there is UTcomp's code in addition to the ones we've mentioned. And the notion of adapting and learning to predict and lead, which is what skilled players do regardless of their pings anyway.
I haven't seen a bit of difference on most server I've always played (Hedsteem in the U.S. is one). I think Epic has a few more servers now but they only run a few maps which gets boring quick.

Hedsteem run 32p servers correct? I honestly think it's a mistake to set up so many 32p servers in this game. 20 seems like the ideal highest number with anywhere from 12-16 being the sweet spot. Any more than that and you start getting too much lag, and for me it is just not really enjoyable, becoming a constant spamfest. New players stand no chance on these servers and only the most dedicated experienced players remain on top for long.

In UT2004 I was the guy on top of the scoreboard by a good 50 or more points literally 95% of the time in Onslaught matches. I am still good in Warfare but I can't be bothered to keep myself playing at that level anymore. It's ridiculous what you have to do to stay on top of the board, you have to be relentless. I want to just enjoy the game, and I've realized, it has become hard to just sit back and really "enjoy" many games anymore. I think that's because the player counts are too high, the lag gets too high, your attention has to be on too much.

if you choose a close server you can get as low as 30 ping

24 slots should be the maximum for servers. I hate playing on 32 slot warfare servers; they are laggy plus there are so many people, its becomes a spamfest.

                      +1

Yes, I agree totally. 32 player servers, no matter where they are, are overloaded. Too many players and the CPU and network just cannot hack it. The stock maps are not big enough for that many players. I remember the 64 player servers with TankCrossing, SinkHole, and MarketDistrict. Just total spamfests with the flak and rockets on TankCrossing and SinkHole. The stinger was total spam on Market, you cannot miss with that many players.

It's usually the server cpu and network ping that cannot hack more than 24 players. I played a marathon Floodgate match last night on a euro server. There was only like 12 players when I joined and I had pretty decent ping. As soon as the server started filling up, more than 24 players, ping got real bad. When it was full, it was like my keys stopped working. You know your ping is bad when that enforcer is floating next to you when your on the hoverboard or firing another weapon. Still I managed to hold my own, but, I had to be relentless. The bad ping does place you at a significant disadvantage. The 24 player servers are never nearly as bad as the 32 player ones are.

I get that in just about every game I've ever played... D= Sometimes with other weapons that fire on their own, but aren't even there.

                            @hi-ban:
Well hi-ban, no offence but a beginner has still no chance against an advanced player even if his ping is pretty better.
Even players (two beginners or two advanced players) would be a good example.
The guy with the lower ping has definitely an advantage.
If he can use his advantage is another topic.
Moving shock combos, shooting while running - all those things are simply easier with a lower ping.
The main problem with high ping is:
If it's always different (sometimes 100, then 150 etc.), you always have to find the hitbox.
And that's annoying during a fight.

What i meant is that you can still win even if you are in a clear disadvantage. I like to play in more crowded servers. 4vs4 to 8vs8 is funniest to me, because there is more teamplay than in more crowded games, in which there are usually plenty of low ping snipers doing vtdm (against which i can't compete).
Luckily there are a couple of servers i always play on, in which there are kind players with which you can talk ingame.
The shot in my previous post was a game i jumped in, expecting to find friendly people... As i entered, my teammate started shooting at me and changed to the other team. Both started trying to kill me continuously and didn't answer to anything i kindly said to them, so i decided to cap flags so they would realise that was vctf and not vtdm.
I can also say that i didn't enjoy that game very much. I most enjoy when i play with other players such as UNREALWORLD, S3ko, McGizzle, Dannozz or Fijut. Most of them usually own me, but they also offer great teamplay when we are teammates, and most important, they are fun people to have laughs with, even when you lose.
Anyway, back to the topic. I don't actually play deathmatch because of my high ping. But there are other gamemodes like vctf or war, in which you can still do it well because ping is not so important (although it still helps). Anyway, high ping will help you to improve your skills so you will own at LAN with your friends.

                                I have a small question.
Can anyone describe why the normal movement (running, crouching, jumping) is fully lag-free (no delay) in online matches?
I mean these information must be sent to the server as well.
However, shooting, getting on hoverboard ect. all these things have a delay.
That does not seem completely unified.
Even the crouching on the hoverboard has a delay, compared to the normal crouching which has no delay.
