    Need Help With Orders

The manual that comes with UT3 doesn't include information on several aspects of the game. The main thing I want to understand better is how orders work.

What do the bots do when you give them orders in different game types? How long are the orders in effect? Do they need to be reissued if the bot is killed? What effect does the Orders screen have? Does that set orders globally? If so, can it be overridden individually? What do the icons appearing over the bot's head mean?

    Any info would be great!

    Thanks

There is no more extensive manual. I guess they depend on the community to help each other out. I don't play with bots, so I can't help you directly. But I recommend you edit your first post and change the title to "Help with orders" or something like that. That way you'll get more of the right people to read your thread. There is an edit button on the post itself, or you can double click your thread on the main page and change it there.

i dont really play with bots that much but i have recently managed to make it though insane difficulty campaign. a couple of times you'll want to just capture the flag real fast then everyone just defend the rest of the match.

hm i need to try giving orders to a bot online and see what if anything it does

for instant action and campaign. (i could be wrong on some stuff) orders stay in affect untill you give new ones or the match ends. im not sure which icons you are talking about. as for the menu it has option for attack, defend, hold this position, cover me, freelance, drop flag/orb. the affect on the bot will differ from gametype like with deathmatch you'll always be attacking so attack, defend, drop flag/orb and maybe freelance wont really do anything. for warfare though they are pretty much self explanitory, defend will defend the vulnerable node or key point (in ctf the bot will camp the flag room). freelance looks like the bot does more like a human player would do. it sees someone in a viper and tries to take him out, it realizes a support node is neutral and goes for it faster than an attacking bot. something like that. the menu can be accessed by your show command menu key (that is if you're pc player, consoles could be the same, idk). the orders can be given to all bots at once or each bot individually. having the command menu open you cannot scroll through weapons like with your mousewheel but it will allow you to do pretty much everything else normally except for it overrides any hotkeys you may have on the numbers. like c 2 5 may do the hip thrust taught instead of switching between two weapons. try stuff out.

Herding bots is like herding cats. I play around a dozen Warfare botmatches a day while testing my mods and I have seen them take the enemy prime when I ordered all of them to defend. However, there are a few things that really work.

          Cover me
Bots will take this command serious. Not that they'll do an awesome job at it, but they'll flock to you.

          Hold this position
Again, not that they'll do a great job at it, but they'll drop most of what they are doing and hoverboard over to the designated spot.

          Drop orb
They'll do so right away. Just don't expect them to come to you first.

          Honk your horn
When in a Hellbender, Cicada, Goliath, Darkwalker or Leviathan, honk to make a nearby bot get in. You have to be pretty close to them and, of course, they don't always listen.

Are you sure that is what it does or is that just what you think it should do?
