    Jumping Techniques

What kind of jumping techniques are there on Unreal 3 and how can i accomplish them? I mean like bunny hoping and wall jump.

    Any video guides are welcome.

I see some people mentioning wall jumps, but how i do it?
Theres also the hoverboard tricks, but those are a waste of time
I want to learn useful techniques.

Wall jump = jump on the wall and then double click versus the direction you want to go.

Host an instant action server with 0 bots and stay offline to practice.

Wall dodge: when you are near the wall, double tap the direction key you want to dodge to. There are certain limitations, but you'll have to see them for yourself.

Bunny hopping: This is actually called "lame" and is not a technique. It's when you jump repeatedly in the same direction and tempo.
Very annoying for your playmates, also ineffective against anyone more experienced than a beginner bot.
        Don't do it.. Seriously.

Tactical jumping is something else you would (and should) practice on a regular basis against opponents with certain weapons, such as rocket launchers (they almost always aim for the ground to do splash damage) or sniper rifle or stinger to distract aim.
Avoid jumping too much in front of anyone wielding shock rifle or bio rifle. As soon as they know where you will land you are dead meat.

          You mean double tap

it may depend on if you're on a console but against experienced pc players i wouldnt advise jumping while facing someone with something like the sniper (my opinion of course). it is easier to pick off a guy at the top of his jump if a player does it somewhat often then it is to predict an irregular zigzagger. thats about the same for someone whos quite often dodging at some range. you get used to knowing where that player will land and when in the dodge you wont have any control over changing directions for that split second.

i dont think anyone explained the hammer jump. so you take out the impact hammer. you may not need to charge it to get wherever you're trying to jump to but doing so will make you fly further, it will also damage you a bit more. but aim the hammer at the ground or a wall and release it as you jump. it will take some practice and vary online cause of latency

                It is for pro gamers

On UT3 you cannot do no more bunny hopping. UT3 game have support console machines paddle and joystick controls and they do not support this control style. You can bunny hopping only with keyboard + mouse (read: PC).

Bunny hopping gives you 30 % longer distance. It is pro players technique on UT 2004 games. Good player can avoid enemies bullet or rocket foot hits by jumping away. Other nice about bunny hopping are those maps, where you use this. There could be an aperature, but wall. You can jump twice on wall and then release to left or right (wall jumping).

Yep, you know the feeling when playing on UT3 and can only jump once. You feel you are a reptile or very heavy guy.

Dr. Fish called this bunny hopping 'lame' moving. Correctly it is other, it is a pro gamers moving technique and to learn it, takes 2 weeks to 2 months. Nowadays console machine players want low step to join in on-line gaming - without skill or time for practice. Now we have UT3 without bunny hopping. I hope the next UT 4 will plan 1st to PC and after that to console. Or forgot those machines completely. ;-)

OK. Why Epic done this? Money? Indeed. Becouse markets "ready for operation" PC's doesn't have enough power for games (poor graphic card) and console runs easy with HD quality. (no-one doesn't told them poor FPS).

Bunny hopping has been replaced by strafe dodging. Very useful for when you try to hammer someone.

You can double-jump, however the total jump height is a tad low imho.

With jump boots you can jump extra heights after wall dodge.
Jump -> wall dodge -> jump(with jump boots), is extremely useful in Sandstorm vCTF map to get Redeemer place. Video can be found on youtube, search "sandstorm tricks".

When on hoverboard, you can jump higher than normal double jump.
Hold crouch -> release -> get off hoverboard peak of a jump.
Thats useful(you won few seconds:-) on downtown prime node because you dont have to use stairs. I dont know is it ping issue or what but I accomplish that only 1/5 times I do it and sandstorm jumps manage every time.

Since previous replies seem to be somewhat random, besides basic double jump and dodge you can:

                        1. double jump + wall dodge.
                        2. double jump + wall dodge + hoverboard (highest non-piston/boots jump).
                        3. tap piston jump + second jump. The trick for pistons: look straight down, TAP the piston and jump at roughly the same time (depends on lag), only costs 14 health.
                        4. loaded piston jump + second jump, same as above but load the piston before releasing, takes a full 50 health.
                        5. #3 or #4 but go to hoverboard at the end of the jump.
                        6. With boots, you can dodge + jump (ala 2k4).
                        7. Pretty much any of these with boots.
                        8. double jump + wall dodge + piston off the wall. (added late to list, forgot about it).

Thank danimal for spending an hour in server with me going over all of these and then some at the beginning of UT3. There's some other really crazy stuff you can do with vehicles: but let's just leave that cat in the bag for now.

oh man - is the "depends on the lag" part true? I find piston jumping so much harder than on 2k4 but if it's ping dependent, then that would explain alot!

Can all this be done on a console with a gamepad?

It's always been ping dependent, but it feels worse in UT3. I think because the delay in doing it without any latency is still higher than it was in UT2004.
