I mostly play gears of war 2 but am quite frustrated... Ive had a PS3 for some time used it strictly for blu-ray, but tonight i decided to buy UT3... Any pointers or tips would be gladly appreciated
nah u dont need to assign it to L1 when i used controller mine was X and i rarely died because of my movement but practicing against bots will let u know how to control the map a bit try campaign learn the basics jump online into a TDM (not DM) less spawn killing there (i really can not believe how pathetic players have become nowadays can only ever get kills by camping by spawns) learn how much damage each weapon does also a huge thing to learn ...predictions think of what ur enemy is going to do before he does it
That's actually not bad for a first match. Bots are ok, but the way to get better is to play people who are better than you. (I never have trouble finding those. )
Even more important than learning how to move is learning to move. Standing still is a death sentence. Keep moving.
So true, keep moving is absolutly necissary. I think the most skills I got came from playing CTF matches. IMO, in CTF matches you reach the pinnacle of FPS gaming with UT3 in terms of map control (memorization), handling speed (aming & movement) and situational anticipation (partern recognition). I think those skills are essential in all gametypes in UT3.

Great to someone new is playing this great game..Some pointers are:
1. don't get shot
2. look at other players
3. ask a lot of questions to other players
Welcome to the community. Always good to see new players.
I'd say UT3 is an excellent choice for coming out of your gaming draught. As others have alluded to, you should try to master movement as this is where most new players go wrong (through no fault of their own, since they haven't learnt yet).
PS3, number one tip: Get a mic, use it. Voice on PS3 is far superior to pc, and can really help you learn. Don't get discouraged by the occasional jerk. Any cheap cell phone bluetooth will work. Have fun!
