Integration of the patch + Titan Pack into the Retail DVD? Yes, it works!

    Hi guys,
It was a question but since I've managed it, I will write how I did it:
    I have the UT3_RC7 (6,86 GB).

    1. I copied all files (except dotnetfx.exe) from dvd to my hdd in a folder UT3_V2.
    2. Then I created a new folder into it, named Patch & Titan Pack and pasted into it the patch and Titan Pack.
    3. I right clicked on the Titan Pack and opened it with WinRAR.
    4. I went to these folders and removed all the files which are highlighted on the screenshot.
Directory in file archive: Patch\UTGame\CookedPC\UT3G\Maps ->80 files
Directory in file archive: Patch\UTGame\CookedPC\Maps -> 10 files

The new Titan Pack's size was 836 MB instead of 916 MB.
These files are important if you want to hear announces like "Attack the ... node" in other languages.
Since I only play UT3 in English, I don't need these files.
The maps will still work if someone plays in German, just some announces will be in English.
(I don't exactly know if they have another sense, but I checked a few maps and had no problems.)

Finally, the folder was 8150 MB, which fits on a DVD+R DL
A fresh installation of the game, patch and Titan Pack worked perfectly - no problems!

P.S: I don't know if the dotnetfx.exe is important for UT3!? Well, you could delete another file as well.

Just activate your copy with Steam, update (when the update will be available) and backup from there.

Good idea, but I don't want to use Steam!
      But thanks.

I just keep a copy on my hard drive till ive collected a DVD full of UT3 related stuff then burn the DVD. This pack will go into UT3 Addons 6 on my **** Theres so much great stuff out there it doesnt take long to find a DVD full. Especially if you store it unarchived which i usually do coz it makes for a one copy and paste transfer back to custommaps, rather than having to unarchive every map. Ive never played CTF much but theyre also greed maps now, and that looks alright to me. Not that ive got to play it yet coz my Titan pack downloads keep failing lol.
Besides your dual layer disc is going to cost about 10 single layer discs, so why not just treat yaself to a DVD full of stuff like CBP3's and the like at a tenth of the cost? You have a nice dual layer retail copy anyhow.

          Thanks for your tips.
          I will think about it.

However, there could be a final chance for me.
I right clicked on the Titan Pack and opened it with WinRAR.
There are some files which I maybe don't need?!
I play UT3 in English and these files look like language files:
          [shot]http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/1738/titanpackfiles.jpg[/shot]

I can easily delete them (and the others which aren't visible here) and the Titan Pack's size goes from 916 MB to 843 MB.
After this change, it would fit on a dual layer dvd!
(8104,96 - full game+patch+Titan Pack - Nero says the max. capacity is 8152 MB).

If there are problems because of missing files, I could replace the original files (which I highlighted) with dummy files.
Does anyone think there will be problems?
