Post-Processing - Simply a matter of preference, or does it give a performance hit?

...just wondering... Has anyone tested this? I had set mine to "Muted" in hopes of gaining performance but I realized that might be a faulty assumption.

It's probably just a DX9 shader - putting it on muted may yield a few FPS on low end systems, but it isn't going to make any significant difference.

I doubt it affects FPS much, but can quite easily change the colour and visual of a level. In some cases adding extra bloom or darker areas.

I just don't like how in Torlan it whites out the sky so you can't see where the shock beams attacking the side nodes are coming from.

And avalanche as well, how you can see the center node cause its whited out with it on anything other than muted.

I don't think "muted" means "turned off".

It doesn't... it means minimized, signifying that if it were processor-intensive, that this choice would minimize the impact it had on performance.

Post processing really doesn't affect much performance-wise. It's little more than just a color/effect overlay. Resolution and screen percentage are usually the first thing to look at when trying to get a few more FPS.

Dude, can't they ban your CD-Hash from every logging into GameSpy if you keep persisting with this? I'd lay off. It's giving a bad name to UT3pugs.

I don't think "muted" means "low resource cost" either. It just means the result looks a bit underdone.

It doesn't matter on the ps3 version, thats all I know...

This isn't 4chan, lets not argue about syntax. It's pretty obvious what I meant at this point.

I'm not arguing your syntax but your statement. You seem to indicate that using the muted setting gets you more FPS. I doubt that is true. Do you have any indications that one type of processing is less performance intensive than another?

My first post makes it clear that I am not making a claim, but asking a question... ...A question which was answered in the very next post.
