Considering buying UT3. How's the duel scene atm?

Hi everyone! I've played the unreal series since the first one in 98, but haven't had the chance to try UT3 yet due to my crappy rig, well that's changed now and im considering buying UT3. I play duel mostly so i'm wondering is there enough players to get some duels on europe servers?

Btw, that new patch looks awesome, hopefully it will spark some interest in UT3. Didn't really like the console style ui in the demo.

Here in NA the duel scene is fairly dead, I can usually only find one or two servers (at the most) with players at any given time. Thankfully a good portion of the remaining duel players are still at a fairly high skill level. I've heard the euro scene is a little better. I know UT3's top duel players are European, anyhow.

I say buy it; it's fun as hell and if you don't mind searching a little bit for a game once in a while, it's not all that bad. Ladders aren't active, but you can still get your competitive fix by playing in the occasional pug (#ut3pugs on irc.gameradius.org.)

Plus, you'll be doing us all a favour by upping the player count.

edit: It is still a console-style UI, it's just a prettier console UI with more of the graphics / server browser features UT fans have come to expect. (Not to say that's a bad thing.)

The UI after patch 2.0 is no more "console styled" than UT2004's was.

The game sells for around the price of a movie ticket, no UT fan should have to ask this question

Get into it! If more former UT players just handed over the $20-$30 rather than worrying about player counts, no one would have to worry about playercounts

If you like duel then I suggest you get on IRC: the best channels are #mpukut3.duel (type !add to start a pickup) and #ut3 (general UT3 channel) on quakenet. Can't say the channels are very active, but at evenings it shouldn't be too hard to find a game. I don't know about public servers.

BTW, I don't know how skilled you are, but the signups for the Clanbase 1on1 Spring Cup are still open (until the 1st of March).

Many of the UT3 players who do 1v1 right now are pretty much pro level DMers. Since you have not played UT3 at all, you should at least practice a bit after you get the game before you play any of those guys.

The expansion should be a nice addition to UT3, so all game types should see more players in the months to come..

Actually most of the top level pros don't seem to be very active in UT3 1on1 anymore. Hypno plays occasionally but many others seem to have quit. But yeah, there are still many highskilled players playing. Most are midskillers like myself though.

1v1 in NA is dead. Barely can even talk people into 1v1 on IRC anymore...

Mmmm duel is pretty dead, you can find decent/good dm/tdm tho.

The clanbase 1on1 cup currently has 114 signups so I wouldn't say it's dead, but the activity has dropped a bit since the last season.

In Europe is good, but Hypno doesnt play anymore and that makes the level go down.

But imo the 1on1 is not dead.

PS: Are you the same tQz that make me out of the 4th Division Final in last 1on1 session :?

That's like a steal, especially with the Titan pack coming out next week. Good job! I bought it for €45 on US launch and it's the best €45 I've ever spent on a game ;-)

i play PS3 Version but i will have to agree that all the duelers are pro material on both versions and practice is assential. when u can own godlike bots, moving combo, time the shield belt and learn map control then ur ready
