    Scoring and the Titan pack

In warfare, at the moment, there is no justification for spawnkilling - it is tactically useless, unless it's close to contested nodes, and cuts off your opponent's reinforcements.

With Titans, it will be tactically valid because it will allow you to become a titan. So unless the scoring is modified to disincetivise becoming a titan via spawnkilling, we we will have a lot of spawnkillers - and more than that, this time around they can reasonably claim "play to win"

I've been saying for a while that fraging footsoldiers(i.e players not in vehichles) in a node aream or a base that is not vulnerable, that is not connected to a node that's vulnerable shouldn't score points. If a player has a frag since spawning, there is no point protection.

    To explain
    red base-1-2-3-4 blue base,

If node 2 is the only one that is not shielded (i.e. neither team controls it), frags for footsoldiers in nodes 1-3 count, but if you kill enemy footsoldiers in their base, or the defenders of node 4, that shouldn't score any points.

If nodes 2 and 3 are contested, then only the bases have point scoring protection.

Good point. A bit worrying too given how pre-disposed people can be to spawn killing at the moment.

      Maybe a longer spawning shield?

Sounds like rewarding people with the titan powerup should be done for doing things that achieve something in whatever game type you are playing. e.g. for warefare you should get the power up for destroying/defending nodes.

Giving out bonuses for playing DM in a non DM gametype as Rhi says is obviously a bit of a dumb idea.

I think this is some great idea! And it seems not that hard to realize?!

Note. Not all servers will have the titan mutator ON.

I bet it'll be a lot like driving a Darkwalker with a makeover.

If it screws up gameplay too much then hopefully it's just a mutator that won't get used much.

Not something I ever dreamed of. I'd have thanked them to put their efforts into some additional maps instead. But maybe this was easier.

The titans will rejuvinate and add a brilliant tactical element to ONS. Particulalry since timing when to be a titan, and coordinating multiple teammates to be titans at the same time will add a brilliant new twist.

But thought has to be given as to how to integrate this with ONS scoring..

If by "rejuvinate" you mean there might actually be a few more players online then I guess anythings' a worth a try.

I think they could have tried having more maps

And if by 'ONS' you mean 'WAR'....

New maps won't do jack by itself if history is any indication. Torlan is still virtually the only ONS map played on 90% of 2k4 ONS servers.. After the ECE pack came out with new maps, did people play them? Not a whole lot. Then again most of the ECE maps sucked.. but the point remains..

I don't think a lot of WAR servers will actually have the mutator on.

Hell, a lot of servers have superweapons off even if a map was specifically balanced with superweapons in mind.

Surely the ONS-Torlan issue is down to the fact that the UT2004 demo has that map (and Primeval) as playable? I bet you that all 90% of those ONS servers are demo servers running Torlan in a loop, and all the clients have the UT2004 demo.

A lot of the bonus pack maps in UT2004, as pointed out, are just not what the ONS community wanted - and not everybody downloaded the bonus pack. Via steam though we now have a way of pushing out good maps, and I hope that MUSC maps get onto steam.

I also hope that the new Epic maps are big. We need space to play and relax.
