Im not casting it out, im fine with console to console crossplatforming.

UT3 failed to be popular online on the PC because of the obvious complaints and dissapointments that are littered through out these and other forums. UT3 failed to be popular online on consoles is a complete mystery and can be speculated upon by anyone.

Crossplatforming UT3 is a console players saviour to the game and not the PC's.

possibility of finding new competition would be available

the ps3 version is fine its not much of a failure at all honestly console players who stopped playing it have their reasons by what i have seen is because ut3 is to...different for them for them its fast paced, for me its slow i have played previous Unreal games so i am used to the speed of what the game is supposed to be like..that or they have played the previous Unreal games and they dont like what ut3 has become i personally favor ut3 over ut2k4 thats why i stick around that plus when ur playing with a group of people on a mic (thats also a thing the pc version fails on sadly) and they are making you laugh yeah you would stick around for these guys (i may be wrong on the pc mic thing i dont know from personal experience its just what i have read on this forum)

Ah yes, this. Instead of complaining about consoles, why don't you focus on 3 things that are hurting the platform: hardware complexity, piracy and that 90% of the so called AAA titles are brown and blood red shooters where you play to "pwn" instead of playing to win. Where you consider winning as "dominating" or putting other person down and you get an ego boost out of other people's defeat or loss, instead of seeing that defeat as just a side effect of your victory.

You may think that (almost) everyone that don't play on PC anymore are migrating to consoles. But I guess that a lot of the old school guys and gals just gave up of gaming altogether. My sister came to my place last weekend, she and my gf happen to be great enthusiasts of adventure style games. They talked about Steam and she bought an old style adventure game. Now, you have to have a special talent to find a game more lame than that one. However Steam pocketed 15 euros.

She installed it on Vista, and that **** retentive P(OS) blocked and crashed the video card config of the game. She had to come to my place again and I had to search for the utility and change it's perms to Admin and set XP SP2 compatibility and some stuff more that I don't remember. It took me a while to figure out that I would need to set permissions of a program that I didn't launch (i.e. a child process of steam.exe) when running as Admin. And because I downloaded it on my PC and she took it as a Steam backup on a DVD, when installing I had to unmount the HP Recovery partition because Steam complained that it didn't have enough disk space! I don't expect her to have system level experience or care about that BS.

And thank God she doesn't need great fps or very good graphics on that game to have fun, because honestly a Vista laptop on a 8400gs-m is not what you can consider a gaming rig. But be certain that she will not buy a console either, because sitting on a couch with a laptop on the lap can be even more confortable. btw, while posting I remember that I used to play UT and Sacrifice on my old Toshiba laying on bed before I went to sleep

I showed her other games, but my sister didn't even bother to look at Bioshock, liked the Mirror's Edge trailer but voted no with her wallet when she saw the shooting part. She used to love horror adventure games and such, but now she doesn't like that kind of stress, she has to deal with it at work.

So, if your problem is that consoles are eating the PC market, trust me, it almost vanished long ago for other gamers. Again, instead of ranting against console gamers that don't have anything to do with all this ****, how about start demanding AAA PC adventure, arcade, or "console style" games for people that still consider that what it's important is to win, not make other people lose; that cater for other segments or demographics besides the "pwn" generation; that by their nature don't require massive framerate, that run on laptops or modest machines and doesn't require military grade hardware to run; that you have a platform where the OS doesn't behave like a carent child, behaves like a program loader and gets out of the f'ing way ?

Especially if we could settle all this on the battlefield. Thanks Harmerty. You know their is the big argument about the difference in the two platforms but honestly it means so much to me if PC and PS3 could play together that I wish PS3 would just change to PCs settings so we could play together. I don't thank both platforms should meet in the middle to be able to play the game together. As a past UTer I got use to the difference on PS3 to PC, not the other way around where I play PS3 and going to have to get use to PC. I know we would loose some PS3ers because they aint use to the PC version but in all honesty if they were ever to play each other PS3 needs to change, not PC. The speed, hitboxes, movement, everythang. This might be all to big of a change to ever happen but it would be nice if it did, a bigger community is always better, unless its as big as halo then its just plain stupid to wait 10 mins to play a game.

As far as the mic thing goes. The VoIP support was horrible in UT3. Even those determined to use the mic couldn't, because the support for it was so bad. I'm really hoping this giant patch fixes everything. Sure, it got a little better after some of the bugs with VoIP was dealt with in patches, but it was just bad for the most part. In UT2004, mostly everyone I played with had a mic and wasn't shy about using it.

Believe it or not, I've run into less people in GoW2 using a mic, then in most of the PC games I play now. 90% of the time, at least 1 person will say "Does anyone here have a mic" in Left 4 Dead. I would say 8 times out of 10, most of the people on the team I happen to be put on, say "I do".

IMO, the PC version of UT3 did horrible for these reasons:

                1. This game was release around the same time as a couple other games. The market was pretty cramped at the time.

                2. I don't hate Midway, but they did an absolute horrible job of marketing the game. I don't care how great a game is. If you don't know about something, you wont buy it.

                3. Those that did get it, got completely disgusted by the lack of a finished product. Epic has already stated that they screwed up. The game just wasn't ready. I don't actually blame Epic for this one. Midway needed a savior and pushed too hard with it. 1 good thing about Microsoft, is they're willing to really market a game. If it was them trying to get this game out, I can promise that you would have seen this game's ad just about everywhere.

Anyway, fingers crossed in hoping the upcoming PC patch and Titan pack brings some more people into the game. I'm also hoping that a couple of ads will hit Steam and people will give it another shot.

Well as far as the mic for PS3 at the beginning there was a bug but no one new about it but then the patch fixed it and now almost everyone knows about the mic but the mic on PS3 works flawlessly 95% of the time, that's one thang we do have going for us but as far as people, mostly newbies having mics is unheard of, I'm sure some do they just don't know the bug or even know it has voice support. This game is a 7 out of 10 for me, with mic its a 10 out of 10 for me. Still to dat after I've bought this game a lil over a year ago I have bought one game since and haven't even opened it, that's sad but the truth. UT3 is still my fav and will be for quite sometime. Without the mic I would loose interest quick cause team games suck without mics, DM sucks when your in there for hours and no one to talk to. More people might stick around if they knew it had voice. As far as marketing EPIC does need to do a better job and get the name out there, they need to let everyone know they have new updates coming along with this expansion. I just hope it aint to late as well, cause at the beginning there was a lot of people and when the game came unplayable they lefy and since UT has been awesome but no return for most of the players, this is like one of those great first impressions that got f*ked up, hope we have another shot at it.

Edit, you were also right about the launch, they were calling it the FPS Christmas of all time.

Oh wow, where to start... ok, first off, I bought a PS3 for 600 when it was 1000 for a stand alone bluray player.... I still feel like that was "wicked smaht"..... I eventually met my ex girlfriend (Unreal) there, which led to me getting a new rig (Quad core...WOOT!) and my wife of course is insanely jealous... The PS3 has a huge advantage voice wise, any old bluetooth will work, and the software is almost flawless... I feel this builds community. A guy can say "take orb to middle" while he is fighting three dudes, instead of finishing his fight and typing " You effing noob, you porked us all!".... Also, voice is more personal... You're less likely to be an *** to somebody you speak to every night. You understand that person, you know they prefer to take certain positions on certain maps... a guy you only text with, you're more likely to be rude, IMHO. So, fix pc voice. Then we'll talk again, maybe things will be better...

OK, one last thing... I'm posting this from my cell phone, watching dancing w\the stars live at a casino 150 miles from home... my point is, devices today have changed, cell, laptop, whatever, they are all getting more advanced, and we all have to roll with the changes... soon my watch will play UT3. Will pc people hate me for that?

but seriously, i'm not giving up hope in ps3 to pc crossplatform yet, the pc would have to be hosting or whatever, but i still think it can be done

Yep, the transition and changes made were geared towards the console gamer. The sad thing is, they made all these changes to make the game playable on a console, but as a result the pc game feels, kinda neutered.
