Question from an old UT Player: What is the state of the game now? (PC)

I am quite an old member of this community, as you can see. I loved all Unreal to an extent, but I never got in UT3 enough to even -buy- it.

Months later (thats today), I see it on Steam for 10$. Instant buy. Even if its not good (not saying it isn't), 10$ is nothing.

But my question is, how is the game now? I never really had any idea of the state of the game in the first place, but does it play well? Any major problems? Is the population large enough that people in North America can find a good game at any time?

You don't need to answer all of that, but a quick résumé on the state of the game is all I'm really asking.

Perhaps not as good as it can be, but still pretty **** good. Hopefully the expansion will fix that.

UT3 is simply an awesome, chaotic, brutal slaughterfest. I live on the east coast and never have a problem finding a good game. Even if I join an empty server, it'll fill up with a good amount of players within minutes. $10 price tag isn't bad either.

i still have a ton of fun on ut3 even if the player count aint so hi.in mid day there is about 100 people playing all gamemodes.for $10 its a no brainer BUY IT,you will have fun...and also the expansion for ut3 is going to be coming,so we have that to look forward to

I'm more of a TDM player.

Now did I hear that right? Expansion? I've never heard of that. Are we talking something more to buy, or we will be able to download it for free? (same as UT2004).

If its not free, I just hope they do bring a lot more. Time to google that.

If you aren't already aware of this, be prepared for a UI that suX. IMO, a lot of people see this and get turned off before even playing the game...or they play a bit but the UI is so cumbersome that it becomes "too much trouble" to play.

My point is: the UI is not the game. Judge the game, not the UI. Hopefully, the expansion and/or the next patch will fix it.

Be sure to get the 1.3 Patch and to look at and apply "Ultron's Tweaks" in the Troubleshooting forum here.

I played the 360 version long ago, so I know what to expect from that.. but whats so wrong with it? From what I remember, it shows health and ammo... thats all I really need.

Thanks for the info on Ultron's Tweaks, I'll definitively look there. I'd guess the patching is automatic with steam, though. Otherwise, of course I won't forget about it.

Honestly the state of the game right now is pretty sad. I would say a low point. But an expansion is coming out for it so who knows after that.

I'm uninstalling this faster than I installed it. If the quality of the game overal wasn't so bad, but thats not the problem. I just can't play online.

The best TDM servers I could find had 6 people. ALL others with people had a ping above 150.

Same thing for other gametypes I care the most.


Pretty sad, but thats not just UT3. UT, UT2004, UT3. Yeah, they all had these problems. Its as if NO ONE in north America was playing... only Europeans.

At least, thanks for the answers, guys. But unless the expansion is good enough to make a miracle, I don't see this game going anywhere, so I won't waste my time with it.

And trust me, I hate saying it. Oh boy, how I loved Unreal.

I think the graphical quality of the game is fantastic.
The levels look great.
The vehicles are beatiful.
The heavy gravity and low skill ceiling of movement is ****.

Ut3 is a spamfest plain and simple, shoot the air and your sure to hit someone and get a kill (DM). Or just get in a vehicle and its even easier.

Ut2004 had a high skill ceiling of movement that scared some people away, but it didnt scare as many people away as the dur dur tard fest movement of ut3.
