Have you notice this when you play against bots that when you start getting behind big time like 10 kills that the bots seem to let up and let you catch up. Sure seems that way. Then when you close the gap they start getting good again.
Auto skill adjust is a feature I remember Steven Polge's Reaper bots for quake having. I never used that feature, and I don't recall seeing any reference to it in his unreal bots, but there's no reason it couldn't be in there in some form.
ha, there's a reference in the notes for patch 1.2 to tweaks made in the campaign auto skill adjust, so yeah I guess it's in there. In the campaign anyway. Wouldn't think the bots use it in free play normally, or why have skill settings at all. Wonder if they can be made to use it. Not that I ever would.
Haven't noticed this yet... When I got into this thread, I thought it was going to mention the fact that the bots seem to go blind when in "Cover Me" mode. (won't notice enemies behind them, even when taking fire)
I suck against a godlike bot (1:4 frags lol). That ratio remained the same for an entire match sadly
What I found interesting though was that, that single godlike bot would sometimes continue to shoot where I previously was, flank me and hide behind static meshes.
That or, maybe it was the bot-path on the map that was really good idk.
I noticed that when you set skill over Adept, the bots shoot with minigun and secondary pulse riffle 100 percent acurate! Like a aimbot. And have the same stupid jumping tricks.
Epic should fix this
Exactly. If it is set at a certain skill they should play at that level and not fluctuate. Although it was a nice feature in UT2004 it was your choice. But I notice when I'm getting my butt kicked the bots seem to let up. Maybe its by imagination but they almost seem to be just standing around waiting for me to walk up and kill them. Then as the score tightens up they get more lively again.
And the secondary link gun accuracy on the bots is crazy. Seems like they lock it on somehow and got me wondering if there is a feature to the gun that I haven't figured out yet. If their is in fact some kind of lock on. I know if you hold the crosshairs on the rocketlauncher on a target it will lock on.
i might be completely wrong about this but it seems to me like increased bot AI doesn't just effect their combat tactics, it seems to determine how intelligent their overall strategy is. it seems like the bots take nodes quicker if set up to masterful than down at skilled (i usually play between those two). it seems like on lower difficulties, the bots tend to goof off more and be less aggressive about the objectives.
if this is true, i think it should be changed because i would like to be able to fight against intelligent bots who don't have godlike marksmanship.
that happened in 2k4, the more kills you get on the last boss the harder it gets
Yeah, I remember. I don't know how many times I was up like 6 kills and he came back and won. About the 5th time that happened I got so mad I threw my mouse. I get way to excited. I frequently start shouting at the screen.
