Cheating is such a poor excuse to not go online. People get way too accusatory. I know I have been accused of botting a good 20 times or so in all the time I've played UT. I've never even installed one to see what it's like. So I can imagine how many other legitimate players have been accused wrongly, creating this perception that it is "rampant" when in fact it is not even close. I've only ever witnessed botters between 5 and 10 times in nearly 8 years of playing. Although it is fairly common on some demo servers because there is no form of protection on those.

UT99 - Play online 90+% of the time. Tammy iCTF, MPUK DM, or CoF DM servers.
UT2k4 (when I used to play) online 50% of the time. I preferred UT99 to this so only ventured online sometimes.
UT3 - Online 50+% of the time. Bought and installed the full retail version under about a month ago so still making my mind up. Did initially find a lot of empty servers for some reason, but I assume most play vCTF or WAR. I've only been playing DM so far.

I've yet to come across any botting behaviour on publics. Was one game where a player looked like they were on fast forwards, but I also been having connection issues, so I'm not sure what to make of that.

Funny how so called gamers acquire games, and the first thing they do is look for cheats.

Wow this thread got big fast, looks like theres a lot of people playing mostly online. But theres still a lot of people playing offline.

For the people who do both or anybody really check out
          UT3 Tweaker v5.0
I use the cache converter to make maps I've played online playable in instant action. It's missing some important things though like preview pics and readme's.
and you can tweak all most every setting that you change in the ini's, but with easy mouse clicks.

Another for the instant actioner that I just started using and is awesome is
          MapMixer 3.00(beta)
Its a whole UI change and WAY more options for instant action like map shuffle, no more demoguy, and you can choose exactly what bots are on what team. Like the other night I played COGS vs Locast shuffled through all my DM maps with the uberboard mutator with the number of players changing according to mapsize. It's soo sweet for instant action.

I'm off to check for a good game online, if I can't find one then I think it might be CTF rodents vs Zombies with dual enforcers.

I play 99% of the time online. Real people really make the game more interesting to me. Bots are cool too tho. But i also have a need ta own some noobs. Is that so wrong?
As far as cheaters go, i don't know if i've come across any or not. Sometimes i've thought somebody was cheatin, but then i see how they move and i say, "no. they're just a lot better than me. for now." And it also makes me better ta play somebody a lot better than me, cause i'll just try so hard ta beat them and outplay them that it makes me be a better player, so i'm diggin online play.

kind of 'online all the time'

WASTED TIME is right, the game is more fun with real people. i go online 51%. 30% to do the levels and 19% to play with (against) my pal jack

Only offline. No lag, no cheese tactics, no need to "warm up," no need to only play official mas everyone else has and i can play drunk.

                      All round win.
