also if someone needs help or advice i'm more than happy to lend a hand or give tips, some people just need to chill out and not take the pubs so serious.
Anyone who belittles anyone else due to lack of "skills" in a computer game needs to have their face kicked in. It's pathetic.

I play on public servers, quite often i am accused of cheating.

Every time this happens i feel more inclined to play less, but that would mean the jealous players would be getting what they want.

How can _anyone_ spec "top" players of some game types and become enthusiastic about the game, see insane frags, movement ..., by looking at the server browser? When more than half of the community is just not visible. Please no pointless answers like "you this and you that and you should join...". I'm talking about any guy that bought the game, not even knowing this forum.

          Go on, explain me. Someone.
if you're looking to spec or play against top players there's places u can go, I know that's not the answer u were lookin for, but anyone who buys this game, with little previous UT or even online gaming experience, and immediately wants to play & watch the top class players is being a little ambitious are they not? Could it not work the complete opposite way & scare the hell outta the new guys & put them off playing the game?

How did you or I find out where to go to play in tougher pug games our get involved in clan matches? usualy you get to a certain level in a game and decide that u want to push things a little further, then google is your friend, it's all part of the fun IMO

Asking the top players to go and put on exhibition matches for all the new players isn't exactly fair either, they've spent a lot of time & effort getting to their level, getting involved with other top players & proving themselves in competition, why should they stop playing on their own servers against their mates just to educate someone they've never met, who probably hasn't figured out how to work most of the weapons yet, how to play the game?

If you want to play against some top players, there's places to go, end of story, if u have a tiny bit of common sense and determination, u will find them.

The good players end up in the right places, it's like natural selection, let nature take it's course & play your own games

Ok Salvinorin, you have some valid points. This is a tad complex for me to explain, it's one of those things someone knows it's wrong but doesn't have a clear view of what it is. To illustrate, let me give you a sad example: bashing new players and pub gaming, while promoting Pugs were some of the things that created more damage to online player count. This was done on purpose to rent servers. I don't want to go into more details...
You then have the fact that new and older players don't play because "nobody is playing". They don't see the server browser full, that is. Somehow I don't get affected by that, I can only manage to play on one server at the same time.

Some veterans may be saying "why should we make the effort of repairing other people's screw ups, we play like this since UT99/UT2004, always on PUGs and private servers. Benfica dude, you didn't buy my game copy, go away." I know this very well. But I'm worried that community is becoming way too small, I guess everybody should adjust a bit here and there to try to revert this.

Because gradually their mates are going to drop one at a time from the UT3 universe as the game gets older. Who will they play with then? When they can't get a decent 6v6 together anymore because there's only 4 of their friends online. Skilled players eventually move on and we need to encourage and help the newer players so that they stick around long enough to become skilled. Otherwise it'll just be me and Benfica playing and I don't like duels.

In the last 4-6 weeks the game has just about completely tanked.

Prior to that time the game looked like it was making a slow comeback. Both the pubs and newly formed TDM pugs were seeing some good attendance.

It is by no means the fault of the veterans, they were still playing on the pubs occasionally, and even after the formation of the pugs were promoting the active pubs as well as their pugs.

The game has just hit rock bottom, even the one popular TDM pub is now seeing a decline in attendance.

You can't teach intelligence. Trust me, I've trained people in multiple gametypes. The guy who REALLY wants to learn is the exception. Most people are just... I'm sorry, but they're unbelievably stupid. If you ask them "what were you thinking when": the flag was right in front of you but you didn't return it, the amp was there and you didn't take it, the countdown node had 5 seconds left and you couldn't be bothered to heal it until it hit 0.

The answer is: they weren't thinking, and DON'T think.

I often sit with noobs on servers and teach them the basics of movement (the biggest sign of a noob), and explain lowering their mouse sensitivity (yes, good players ACTUALLY aim), and the "thought" process behind playing (what makes you REALLY good). I essentially run an internal "radar" in my head as I play. Prediction, prediction, prediction, that's all there is to it.

The other problem is that people frankly resent better players. There are some who go "wow that guys good, what can he show me", but the vast majority think you bot, have no life, think you're "all that", bla bla. I personally get tired of it and have no tolerance for it. Ask me to show you, I'll do it in a second, start up the ego and I'll destroy you repeatedly. Which is why about 1/2 of the people who play with me like me and the other 1/2 detest me

This has got nothing to do with noobs or be unable to think. At all skill levels there are always "obvious" tactics that must learned from someone else. A quick example: did you notice you can teleport from base to air node on Islander? There are teleporters at both bases, you have seen them. Well, of course that you know now. But did you notice?
And about the countdown node itself, there are lots of guys that prefer to frag than to destroy the remaining 10%, so I guess it's even.

this is true, u see this so often, players who just constatly grab the first gun & run towards you firing, like bots, u can try to talk to them, help them out, it's like tryin to kick a puddle up a hill

there's people who hurl abuse at me as soon as I join a server, I think it's sad but pretty funny at the same time

Seinfeld is right, whenever I try to play there are lots of veterans, I have found only 4 or 5 people with basic level as me.
Maybe you the veterans who are willing to teach things could post the server and hour where you are playing, so beginners like me have more chances to find you.

You will not stand out like that and will not be accused of anything. You can be extremely effective as Orb runner and get your way through 3 or 4 guys. You can prevent captures with well timed combos or whatever. Even if in the beginning don't have practice using vehicles, your movement skills are very important to dodge and kill powerful ones. Your aiming skills are extremely useful, if you are an hitscan guy, just give the Nemesis a try I could go on...
I hate warfare and VCTF and personally I think vehicles were the worst thing to happen to UT. Playing in a vehicle doesn't even take half the skill it takes to win in any kind of DM.

I have spent a lot of time trying to teach people the game. If more people came on IRC and asked me to help them out I would. See beyond godlike in my sig. irc.gameradius.org #51 #lasagna #ut3pugs #ut3tdm
