Is it possible to start playing the game one year later and be able to enjoy it?

    Hi,
Is it possible to start playing the game one year later and be able to enjoy it? I've seen the Collector's Edition at a good price in Gamestop.

How much hours of learning curve do I need to enjoy the game playing with many veterans?

I mean, other players have nearly that one full year of experience over me, and a lot of them have played the previous games in the series.

I'm currently playing Quake Wars and it was very difficult at the beginning (around November 2007), people with experience in previous Enemy Territory owned the servers easily, I started to enjoy it between 50-100 hours of gameplay!

It depends on where you play and how fast you learn and what gametype you play. If you play Dm against experienced players you probably will probably take more time than say playing vctf or Warfare. It will still take time but there is so many more things in Warfare that you can do to be useful and you don't even have to kill anyone to do it. I'd say get the game if you put a 100 hours in it I'm sure u will get enjoyment out of it.

Well yeah if you haven't played Unreal in the past and since its been out almost a year you will get your *** kicked pretty reguarly. But the game aint hard to learn. My friend actualy started playing the game for the first time lastnight. He just bought it, for PS3. For about 45 mins I showed him basic stuff like double jump, wall jump, where stuff is at in levels and what they do, and same with weapons. Before I knew it he was shooting shock combos and was a noob for sure. Overall if you think you can get good and the dead community don't thow you off then get it. I enjoy after this long and I bought if from lunch. I still play about 3 hours a day. Enjoy

This is a fun game. This game also requires skill and experience to be good. You can have fun playing, but, as you are aware, experienced players will have the advantage. In WARfare proper use of your brain is very important. Using it well means you will gain experience and learn quickly.

Here are 2 prior threads I posted as Warfare guides for beginners. The info in these threads will help you start playing as a good team member right off the bat.

Warfare Etiquette for Beginners (Warfare Guide for Beginners)

        http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=610930

and this 2nd one, of which much is applicable to all Warfare matches

        A beginners guide to WAR-TankCrossing

        http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=613140

Lots of good info in those threads, many top players posted informative replies in both these threads.

You will also want to download, install, and learn custom maps before you play them online. This thread has most maps listed in it.

I came into the ps3 version almost a full month late. When you factor in all the KBM (keyboard + mouse) users it seemed to feel like a year since the game had dropped.

I think any gamer on any console should buy this game. It should be easy to find NICE people that can teach you a little about the game. Just do a little research with anyone you consider teaming up with, make sure it's where you wanna be.

For now just practice, practice, practice, and within a few weeks you'll be fine. (if you're a natural you could be a top player within a month if you run into the right people)

            in a word; yes.

never mind the overwhelming amount of content that would exist after that year alone...
(probably double what the game really ships with)
all the mutators, maps, skins, mods. really serious stuff, made by serious people.

Thats what im doing. I actually got this game when it came out but never got into it until recently. I was tired of playing everything else so pulled this back out and now im hooked.

Ive gotta say im regularly getting my **** handed to me every match(brand new to the series, never played the others except for a little of the demo for 2004 and ut3). I really enjoy playing ctf, so even though my kills are god aweful i still contribute to the team with flag caps and defense. If I played dm or tdm exclusively I would probably get a little too frustrated. CTF instagib is my favorite. My clan hosted a FEAR server that was setup pretty close to the speed of ut3 so my learning curve (hopefully) will not be to steep. The character movement is awesome as well as the speed, so I would say go ahead and get it, since its pretty cheap. Not sure why you need the collectors edition since your not a diehard fan, buts that your call. If you get frustrated playing the veterans you can always jump in against some bots, in instant action, and set them according to your skill level.

well ut3 is a bit difficoult to master, but that's why i like it
im speaking for the pc, but except some dickheads the community is really nice, and if you step up in the right people you can get really good in very little time
after you get a bit better you will really enjoy it
and don't listen to the guys saying that the community is dead, you always find a server to play in for every gametype, 24/7; and as rek sayied, there are lots of new stuff made by other players, like domination or bta

join in, there are new players coming in all the time so dont get too discouraged. your advantage is that you know it takes a lil bit of patience and time to get any good at the game

My aim is not very good, so I usually prefer team based games (as ETQW); the reason about thinking to buy the Collector's version is because is priced the same as regular one, around 30 euros, and if I recall correctly it includes editing video tutorials, a nice way to start doing something different that getting frustrated with Deathmatch veterans!

Yes you can enjoy it, absolutely. There is a lot of scope for teamplay in warfare, and novices playing a support role would be always useful to a team.

THe main difference between ut3 an QW is that UT3 is a lot lot faster, but dying is a lot more irrelevant - you respawn and go.

The first thing you need to do is set up your keys, get to have a vague idea of the vehichles and the maps.

Always grab an Avril (the anti vehichle rockets) when you spawn - unfortunaltely it is vital to know where they are - these maps will help
                          http://boardsus.playstation.com/play....id=6852#M6852

Then switching to an Avril and killing incoming vehichles is the first skill you need to master. Every team can do with a fly swatter - and new players that cannot deal with incoming fast vehichles by switching to an avril tend to get a very hard time.

But essentially, just pile in, and enjoy.

What I always did in Quake wars when trying to learn was to spot which players on my team were the good ones, and follow them to learn new tricks. If a good player is in a tank, you could be their gunner, ready to jump out and avril any incoming vehichles, or just sit around in a scorpion and catch them with the homing barrels.

There's plenty that you can do in Warfare - in fact those of us who are expert tacticians will beat expert deathmatchers in Warfare every time (the dangerous ones are the tactical deathmatchers.)

Sure it is worth starting with UT3. You always have the option to either jump into a game and learn-by-playing, or you just get in touch with the community (IRC for example; see below) and ask the people for tips and tricks.

                            For europe:
                            irc.quakenet.org
                            #mpukut3.warfare

We always welcome new players and help them get into the game.
You can even ICQ me and ask questions about warfare (thats what I play).

I have bought the Collector's Edition some hours ago and I'm downloading the Patch 1.3, UT3 Bonus Pack and the 2 volumes of Community Bonus Pack before installing the game; if you find me online kill another player instead. :P
