Realistic approaches to custom content on the 360.

I had a few ideas about how this could work. Why not let people download content on there PC, then transfer it to USB. I know you can not transfer things directly from USB to 360 but the 360 does recognize everything on my USB. So what about some kind of in game content transfer?

Would it be possible to have an import function in UT3 on the 360 to recognize UT3 content on the USB and transfer it to the 360? Even if I had to specially format a USB to work with only UT3 I would do it for custom content, as I believe anyone would. Also if there were some way to just run maps off the USB that would be great as well.

As far as controlling what type of content people make and put on Xbox LIVE why not just make user created mod games private only? I don't think anyone would have a problem with that. If people had the option I am sure forums and websites would open for people to conjugate share content and arrange private matches.

On to the next point, I believe this would eliminate the problem of policing content on Xbox LIVE, whats the worse content people could make? The game is already violent and as far as pornographic material goes, Forza 2 has the monopoly on that in its Livery shop and it is a Microsoft game.

People just want to be able to share content and keep the game fresh like UT was meant to be. I know it is probably already to late to implement this into the game because it will release in a few weeks, but I am not giving up hope that the people at Epic will find a way to patch this capability into the game. Regardless of the outcome on custom content on the 360, I will be purchasing UT3 when it releases on the 360, I just hope the team working on UT3 for 360 does not give up on adding the ability. Thanks for your time.

Epic is going to be including the most popular mods from the PS3/PC versions.

In other words, there will be mods.

yeah but some people (me) want to have the ability to pick any mod to play not the ones epic feels are worthy to be put up. I personally think they should take their system that they have for the XNA Games and put to use with mods for unreal if people can create there own little mini games why cant we create our own mods

Epic should take advantage of the fact that you can hook the 360 to your PC, and actually access files from the "MyDocuments" folder. Anything form myMUsic etc can be viewed on 360. So maybe they can work something out with MS to where you can upload the maps that way.

        Very feasable.

The problem isn't how to get the custom content into the 360. The problem is making sure that the custom content doesn't physically damage the console and doesn't offend anyone online. This is the way MS is looking at it. MS doesn't want to take the risk of someone making a mod and putting into the 360 that shows offesive material like racism, nudity or any obscenity. They also don't want someone making a mod that will fry the console by overusing system resources. I am completely behind MS on their decision. Unless someone can assure me that all the mods out there are completely safe, I'm taking the clean route, which is not have mods at all.

The world is not a safe place. It never has been. It never will be.

If you want to ensure that your Xbox is always clean and never offensive, I suggest putting it into a lead box and burying it in concrete.

Dont be surprised if they offer it as download content for points am sure 360 owners know to well how MS runs the MP...MS wont allow people to pick any mod not by a long shot theyll want to test it out and sale it for a fee first LOL!

Clearly the world is not a safe place, but there are police and other authority figures trying to make it a safer place. If not, what would stop the majority of people from stepping out of line?

Due to my responsibilities to the Liandri Corporation I must inform you that this will never happen. Unsanctioned tournament arenas and weapons will never be allowed in the primary UNREAL TOURNAMENT circuit.

Well you would be completely safe, do not use the mods. I made a suggestion for private matches, invite only, at least it would be something for those of us who want it. Getting the content on the 360 does seem to be a problem, and downloading it off of Xbox LIVE seems to be the biggest problem. People want it bad enough that it does not even need to be an option to get content off of Xbox LIVE, we would still download off the PC transfer the content and play.

As far as offending anyone goes, all the things you listed are already online. There is plenty of profanity, racism and obscenities, all you have to do is play any game online to find this. Microsofts game Forza 2 that is rated E has explicit nudity in it in the livery and they do nothing but basically let the community police it. The UT community is pretty solid on making maps, mods or mutators, it sometimes takes a lot of work to create content and not everyone can do it, so the things you are actually worrying about are pretty small in the scale compared to the decent content available. Since it can be time consuming and hard to do most of the intelligent people making the content usually do not waste the time to make **** like that.

Breaking the 360 really doesn't make much sense either, worst case scenario the system would overheat and shut down temporarily just like any PC does when it overheats. If a mod did that much to the system it would most likely be unplayable on the 360 anyway much less even start on the 360.

Either way you would be safe because you would be playing with your friends only or making descisions on who you would be safe to play with.
