    UT3 PC Splitscreen maybe........

Recently, I executed UT3 twice running in two separate windows on my Windows XP x64 Desktop. I logged into both windows of UT3 using seperate accounts and hosted a Lan game between them and to my surprise they actually connected.

Okay so here's the only problem...... I can only control one window at once. To control the other I have to Alt+Tab out and click on it. The games connect perfectly and each player shows up in the map in the right spot and such but only one window can be controlled at once. Basically, You can play with one copy of the game while the other is like a TV... you can only watch and wish your friend could control it.

I need to find a way so that both windows can be activated at the same time to get input to them. If anyone knows how to accomplish this so many people would appreciate this, especially me.
So if anyone has any Positive things/Ideas to say go for it.
No flame wars about pc splitscreen please.

    Give it a try..
For some, UT3 may crash when you try to switch resolutions. Try doing it when you are in a map and playing not in the main menu. It worked for me.

First open UT3 twice using the desktop icon.
Log into both. Try offline logon or whichever way you want to log in.
Then go to your video options and change Fullscreen to Windowed.
Set screen resolution to 640x480 or 1024x768 so they both don't take up the whole desktop.
Open up a second UT3 by using the desktop icon.
Right click on taskbar and click on cascade windows horizontally.
Then, Host a lan game with on window and go to the Lan Server list in the other.
Connect and notice how they connect perfectly.
Using xbox 360 controllers maybe it can work more like a console.

interesting concept... but wouldnt it be VERY system resourceful?

may be doable by hooking the processes of each instanc.... worth pondering in thought about at least

It is very system intensive, but not terrible on a new or midrange system. I lowered the graphics all the way down to bleh and it ran ok. How can I post a screenshot of this in action so the other users can see what I mean?

I tried that on 32bit XP but couldn't get the second copy running.

A quick googling reveals that software to get multiple mice working in Windows does exist. Further research will probably turn up something you could use.

press "print screen or prtscrn" on your keyboard.. open paint, and paste.

Press PrtScn(printscreen) and every pixel on your screen is copied onto your clipboard. You can then paste it into a new image in the photo editing software of your choice. Paint works fine, just create an image the size of your desktop.

            *You beat me to it

I added a screenshot. While it isn't exactly impressive, it shows both games connected in multiplay and the frames per second, which, oddly are different from each other.
The input issue is also shown. Only the selected window on the right can be controlled not the left. If I Alt+Tab out of the right window and go to the left window, I can only control the left.
What BradG suggested, hooking the processes together, might work. I have no idea how to accomplish that though. I can't program or cook up any software to allow splitscreen multiplay. At this point, the only issue is input tied in with the seperate windows. Other than that, I see no reason why split screen can't work on the pc.

I can think of a dozen other games where something like this would be useful not just ut3. The how to make 2 windows active at once is the problem...

See, I have 2 monitors set up, and I have done this b4, like about a week after when the game first came out on PC.

I did however have 2 different monitors with 2 different resolutions so it looked kinda weird lol. and yea i had to alt-tab to control the other char.

                      This has some potential

Microsoft Windows MultiPoint Software Development Kit (SDK)
                      http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/t...displayLang=en

Unfortunately i have win xp sp3 and it says you "require vista or sp2" to run it plus I must go sleep now so can't check it out in more detail. It splits the screen in half and allows input of two keyboards and mice.

I never doubted that anyone has tried this before, but I'm pretty sure no one has posted this info until now.

You'll notice on the second screenshot that my computer is just about dead. I was playing with all the eye candy maxxed out.
UT3 is terribly CPU dependant. Time to get a Phenom
Now, with the graphics toned down it is very much playable.
                        AMD Athlon 64 FX62 @2.9ghz
                        4 GB DDR2
2x BFG Geforce 7900 GTX OC in SLI

Honestly, I think this topic should get stickied so that more people will see it and try to figure out how to get it fully working.

Hmmm. This sounds really cool. A lot of my friends don't have computers or have ones that might be able to play oragon trail.

I whoever gets this working should be appointed a unreal god!

Heh, hate to burst the bubble but simply not going to happen or work for games anytime soon. Split screen on PC will be more common before that.

Considering you'd need multiple input devices for each person, then it would have to be registered to each window else everything you did would interfere.
Thats only if you managed to get both games stable enough to run, and then managed to make both windows simultaneously active. Just not going to happen.
