UT3 Recommends Core Extreme..

Here are my specs

Intel Core 2 Duo 6600 1024mhz

4 GB of Crucial Budget Ram (nothing special)

XFX Geforce 8800 GTX XXX 768MB


Now, when I play UT3 Maxed out completely it runs perfect without any drop in framerates on any maps.

So as far as I can see, the whole reccomendation for a really expesive Quad Core extreme doesnt make sense...

Anybody else think that?

Also I will mention that I dont have any fancy water cooling or nothing like that. The only thing I do is use Riva Tuner and up the fan speed to 80 when playing UT3

And the actual mobo I bought in January 2007 and its only a Gigabyte DS3 which ok is not the cheapest but its also not the most expensive either..

Mabye so, but with a QX9770, 4GB of fast Reaper RAM, a 9800GX2 and a 24" - 30" monitor, nothing is going to touch your fps. Better still, the QX9770 can overclock to 4GHz on air cooling BUT it is a stupidly expensive CPU. At the moment, the best CPU available to buy (bang per buck) is the Intel 8500 as that will overclock to 4GHz on air cooling too but won't perform as well as the C2QE due to the lower cache.

Quad Core will be important if you're modding the game, as the editor takes up extra bloat... especially with light building.

For actually running the game though? Buy a fast Dual Core... even Tim Sweeney said that.

E6550 core duo
4gb ram
Gigabyte 775 mobo
8800gt 512mb
XP Pro sp2

ran UT3 flawlesly at 1280x960 with everything maxed out.

The chips core temps never exceed 40 and the graphic card never exceeds 55 even after playing for an hour intensly online. I'm actually running 169.21 drivers as well, not the special 169.28 special by Nvidia for UT3.
I had the impression I'd need a more powerful machine.

where do they recommend a Quad core extreme? If they do that sounds like a mistake to me. A regular Q6600 is more than enough. Most duel cores are fine to I have an e6750 overclocked to 3.2 ghz and the game flies on a 9600gt.

I have an AMD Athlon X2 +4200 and that's a Duo and a EVGA 8800 GTS and it runs fantastically... they just say everything about Quad Core because they want you to buy it.

/me is running on 88% Overcloacked 3.0GhZ Pentium Dual Core and **** on C2 processors.
Anyways, i think that is only commercial trick...

Yeah, it's all a total commercial trick but they do it because so many people fall for what is said so they'll buy the product, when in reality it may not do any better.

well I thought the intro videos at the beginning of games like that were moreso sponsors than anything else. Didn't Intel and Nvidia have to pay for those to be shown everytime you load the game? I would think so.
