A Beginners Guide to UT3 Warfare and vCTF

I just got out of a warfare server that was attrocious, at best, for blue because we had about 3 familiar players on blue, the rest, deer in the headlight looking n00bs who were playing TDM.

Here are links to threads both here at the Epic forums, and from other sources:

America vs Europe - 14x14 Warfare Match With Video of gameplay Thanks to Rob and e-rev.tv
Warfare - A Manual for Beginners - Written by Leo at justWARFARE.com
Knowledge of vehicle secrets - compiled by the community
Unreal Tournament 3 FAQ - Good starting spot
Warfare Key Guides - located at BeyondUnreal.com
About: Unreal Tournament 3 - located at BeyondUnreal.com

Youtube video of available jumps in Warfare maps

[Video] VCTF-Sandstorm - Secrets of the Sand - Part 1-3 - 3 vids by Kentarii77 that show some nice tricks and where the powerups are on VCTF-Sandstorm
Kentarii77 UT3 videos with specialized tricks

vCTF Information - vCTF forums at justWARFARE.com

And most importantly - Get to know those that are playing regularly!
UT3 IRC Now Released! Easy access to the UT3 community!

There is so much more to it than this, but please, if you're going to play in a vehicle based team game, learn to be a team player in regards to what achievements need to be accomplished so that your experience, and those of us playing in game with you, will be enjoyable!

If anyone has links that would help the new comers of UT3, please post them and I will add them here in the first post.

This may be a good thread to post this in:

I also would like to discuss a little orb strategy as well. I think it is generally a good idea for the orb carrier to immediately go to the second needed node at the beginning of each game. Let the team mates take care of the primary node, and once it's up, drop the orb on the enemy's prime.

    base----A-----B-----base

When the game starts, let your players go for node A and carry the orb to node B. Remember, I only think this is a good rush strategy right out of the gates. I too have seen many orb carriers that don't really know what they are doing or where they are going once they pick it up. It is a HUGE strategic tool, but you have to deploy it effectively.

When both orb carriers try that, the one who gets there second is completely SOL. =)

Great compilation of tips. The vehicle thread particularly saved me loads of learning.

The other "secrets" that I'd want to let n00bs know:
-Headshots are easier when you're standing still (the hitboxes for headshots actually adjust in size. just stand still for a second when you fire)
      - You heal vehicles/nodes or do more damage to someone if you link up with an ally by standing right next to them and using your link gun.
-Make sure you have your weaponfire centered in utgame.ini. It makes using the flak and link gun much easier for me.

I agree with taking the orb to the 2nd node for most matches. Sometimes I've found that when I grab the orb my teammates take the vehicles to the second node. It's really a judgment call -- if I'm the only one at the prime w/ the orb, I'll cap it.

A personal pet peeve of mine is when I reach the prime node and I have it almost full w/ my link gun, and then the orb carrier caps it. If the node is already being built, just link up to it -- link gun + orb nearby charges the node pretty quickly. Even on Downtown when the orb spawns at your prime, save the time of waiting for it to generate and just head to the next node.

The kind of tacit tactics that go on in pubs can be funny at times. No one says they're going to do this or that but everyone assumes someone will. I've seen matches where everyone assumes someone is going to go immediately to the prime node and build it up, but no one does; everyone went off to center, countdown, enemy prime, etc. Or everyone assumes someone else will want to run the orb and no one does.

Easy way to be a good Warfare player: be the person that does the job that everyone assumes someone else will do. If no one has picked up the orb, get it and take it where it's needed. If you see one of your nodes that has some damage, heal it. Recognize where assistance is needed the most and be there.

On some levels I like to do what can be called a dirty tactic - like in Downtown get the scorpion right at the start and go right to enemy core and try to self destruct into as many ppl as possible who try to get the tank node or goin on to get the prime - it will get you there fast enough and u can really hold off half the team if lucky allowing your team to get the center much faster. Also a likely first blood

Works in some others as well but this is the best by far. I guess I'm a noob spammer spawnkiller camper for that tho ?
