The 9800GX2 is two GPUs in SLI that occupy one slot (it has a tiered PCB).
While it is powerful card, it relies on SLI technology. For this reason, I would set my sites on a 9800GTX instead (which will probably be a better bang to the buck anyways).
Currently, you can get highend or nearly highend performance for very cheap. So, I wouldn't be looking at these cards unless (a) you have money to blow away, (b) run a 30" monitor or (c) want to be able to play Crysis maxed out.
