      Too bad that only about 1%! of players play custom maps online. There are really good custom maps that worth playing them!
      I think if there are a very few players on servers with custom maps it's because:
      • a lot of clients not yet patched to 1.2 (so they got URL bug error and disconnect)
      • the size of the map and the bandwith of their internet connection. With UT2004 the average size of the maps was about 5-10Mb with UT3 it's about 4 times more so some players are not patient to wait for more than 3 minutes to download the map...
      • some servers have NO or a very slow redirection server, so players can't download quickly maps.

        Yeah map file size and download speed is an issue. It's smarter to download them via a web link, rather then wait for them in game. if you are playing a game with high speed on, the game's over 1/2 of the way through your download.

          well think of it this way... considering you really couldnt play online with custom maps until patch 1.2 was out, that means its been a week now? give it some time... alot of ppl were also waiting for 1.2 to get into the game and servers are getting busier as far as i can tell... theres a few quality maps out but modders werent really working on stuff either due to problems so mappers will start putting out stuff soon - at least that what we are all hoping for

              Part of the problem is the majority of idiots that play UT3. You seem to have a good server with good pings and bandwidth, and you have the latest patch and redirect, but nobody goes to your server.

                i think its because a lot of people havnt moved to getting custom maps yet... meaning pure servers attract more players.

                especially with the fact that the ingame-downloader is slow as. lol.

                  i hear ya. i have had the server since the game came out. I tried to get it populated in the beginning and it was hit or miss. Got tired of playing against bots night after night and just started playing on either umgleague or PHX servers. I had lots of fun but got tired of stock maps. Now that 1.2 has fixed the disconnect issue with custom maps i am putting more effort into trying to establish a custom maps server. I am trying to round up some people from the clan tonight to hopefully get it going for a few rounds.

                    I avoid anything but custom map servers. I've played all the stock maps to death and beyond. As for slow in-game downloading all I can say is I don't have that problem at all. At usually about 700-800 kbs I get maps in just a few seconds. Maybe you've just got a bad service provider or a slow computer or something??

                    I should probally note that my clans server [ARC] is currently stock maps but I like the setup so I do play there a little. Our UT3 admin recently left the clan so hopefully I can get in there and help bring some custom content to the server. Though I have to say we get a lot of traffic right now simply because of our setup.

                      Anyone with a serious redirect has no problem pushing the maps personally until all the problems are worked out am not even going to bother compressing as yet. I noticed this morning that there is a problem with the new server web admin and mutators, am having a hell of a time getting them to work. At one point this morning deleted the web admin in favour of getting the muts to work.. So now with the error for dls fixed will do things old style for now till these problems are corrected. Taoclan will start added maps to both our CTF and Warfare servers I have up...Be nice to get a decent place to hunt and DL from the forum is such a pita to search for mut and maps as there is no order...Takes forever to find things...Anyone got a decent spot for either some place with some order to it?

                              Hell, try it with 24 players.... it's just a standstill at that point, and a sniper fest for both snipers and avril whores.

                              I logged onto a server running sandstorm the other day, with over 42 players online! The exact same thing happened.. every possible choke point was triple covered, and then game didn't end until people got bored, and started to quit.
