    tweaking Ini files, cheating?

i was wondering if tweaking or altering your ini.files is considderd or is ever going to be considderd as cheating? why and why not??

imo you're cheating when you have an advantage to other players, when you have changed the game the way developers made it.
imo tweaking your ini's is pushing the limit. but it looks like epic made UT like this and we're able and free to do this.

to me this is verry confusing...

Its not cheating, all pros tweak their ini to how they like it. If the person doesn't tweak it then they arnt taking advantage of the game. Some people need to tweak it to get that better fps other tweak it for that control they need. Its not cheating what so ever.

      It's not cheating, it's fine-tuning.

If custom binds and stacked commands aren't cheating... then ini tweaking ain't cheating.

Ini tweaking is required to be able to play the game as it is supposed to, so no it's not cheating.

No. Editing your ini's to adjust settings to your liking isn't and never will be considered cheating. It's like saying someone's cheating because they have a good computer, or a better monitor, or a gaming mouse instead of a laptop touchpad. Yes, those things might give them an edge, but A.) Those things are not against any written or unwritten rule of the game, and B.) These options are available to everybody they're playing against. People have the right to customize the game to their liking using the tools provided by the game itself. There is nothing even remotely sinister about digging into the ini, and you're going to have a very tough time convincing any competitive gamer otherwise.

This is your core argument. Welcome to PC-land, where every system is different.

no, i'm not talking about Pc's your PC or the setting you play on is your choice.
im talking about editing the game to have an advantage. like changing the color of your crosshair or when take away the movent out of the cross-hair. this way you get an atvantage.

if all this is alowed is ok, im not afraid to use this.
but it looked strainge to me when this is not an option ingame.

anywayz thx all, for the explanation!

To sum all this up ini or game tweaking is not a cheating never has been all games have some form of tweaking the game for a better performance and or better game play, lets say a player named Joe is tweaking his ini files to get an advantage over the other guy lets say you! then of-course you have the right to tweak your ini files to give you the same advantage so cheating is not a issue when tweaking your game files.

It's like using tools to access your car's electronics in order to change the performance characteristics to your liking. Anybody can do this if they know how (on most modern cars) and it's still the same car when you're done. The stock settings for both cars and PC games are aimed at ease of use, not competition. For instance, in UT3 your character's view will bob up and down while you're running. This helps with immersion and provides visual feedback for the movement commands that you execute. However, anybody that's played the game for a few days and become even mildly competitive will know when they're moving and won't need that immersion or feedback so they might want to go into the .ini files and turn off the view bobbing.

not at all.. part of anyones skill is to learn how to use the tools they are given.

in competitive marksmanship, you wouldnt class it as cheating if you know how to setup your scope for elevation and wind allowance. Tweaking anything defines your experiance and personal preferences to set everyone apart as individuals

                          Fine tunning is not cheat.

Remove your own footsteps or changing the way UT sounds so that you can hear clearly the enemy at the very far other side of map is cheat.

It is not cheat is in a 1on1 match both of you have the same settings on these cheatable features.

                          (IMHO of course)

Your opponents can easily tweak their INI files as well, so it isn't cheating.

So you are saying that if I install aimbot it is not cheating because my opponents can do so as well?
