    Slow-field improvements!

Okay okay, I understand-- you can place it around your flag.... so that when the blind-folded enemy of yours grabs the flag, he runs into it, and, OMG, gets stuck!!11

Except in reality... you don't walk into the slow field. It's an annoying obstruction for all players... at BEST, its just slightly more annoying for the enemy. It's an awesome idea, but the implementation simply isn't as useful as it should be.

My solution: makes the slow fields team-colored-- blue or red. If it was deployed by your team, you can walk through it unaffected, and shoot through it unaffected. If it's your enemies, you get full effects... as it is now.

This would increase the strategic use of slow fields-- place them around a choke point, and now your enemy sets himself up for an easy kill every time he wants to pass through, but your team is fine.

Anyone agree/like this idea? Or, perhaps even want to make a mutator that does this?

That actually is a really good idea, deployables shouldn't affect the team using them (neither the spider mines or EMP affect your own team mates). If it happens it'll probably happen as a mutator though this is definitely something epic should look into including in a future patch (as well as increasing the mantas sound and other small gameplay tweaks).

I think that's pretty interesting. The slow field does need some tweaking because as a warfare player, there really isn't much use for it aside from planting around the enemy's orb spawn point.

I think it'd also be cool if it would adhere to floors/walls/ceilings. Like, if the edge of the cube is within a certain, small distance from a wall, have it cling. Right now it seems that whenever the cube is in a choke point, you can either hug the wall or sometimes even crouch to avoid being slowed down.

Another idea would be to have an outline of where the cube is going before it's actually deployed so you can visualize the dimensions before setting it.

      My $.02.

I really like the OP's suggestion. I'm not a fan of the deployable for a number of reasons. I think in theory it's a fantastic idea, but in practice it's awkward and not very ideal.

I'd like to see the visual design of it changed to something other than a block of matrix jelly.

Also, it should allow more projectile types to pass through. And instead of just blocking hitscan weapons, there should be a change in effect as they pass through the volume.

It was a good idea, it just wasn't all that well implemented.

Hey! I'm a big fan of the blob of jelly XD

Actually, it's one of the things I make a point of showing off to friends who don't play Ut3-- it LOOKS really cool.

It would be cool if it expanded intelligently to fill in the area you place it, adjusting its height/width depth accordingly. If you place it in a small doorway, it fills it fully to its height, perhaps compensating with a little bit less depth. Or if you put it across a large passageway (for example, the entrances to center in war-avalanche) it expands side-ways to fill it, compensating with perhaps less height/depth.

But that's a bit much to expect from a mod/patch. Never hurts to brainstorm, though =P

False. Don't stir up trouble in my thread. :P Epic would have no problem with respectful brainstorming.

Disagree. Check last page of Sucky Weapons Thread.

I would consider that a nice example of how NOT to phrase a constructive criticism thread-- and yet it is still open. So I disagree with you as well.

                    Sorry for your loss.

                    Back on topic please? XD

Ok then. I have a really great idea for improving the Generators. But I can't share my ideas with Big Brother watching.

I wouldn't mind seeing a taller, wider, slower slow field. The problem is that it often doesn't fill up the entire passage and it's easy to go around it without much trouble. Plus, in faster vehicles, like the viper, it's not a big issue to just go on through it since it only takes a second. As it is now, it's not terribly useful except on your flag or in a very narrow passage.

                          Harmatia thats a brilliant idea

Lets hope Epic consider it.. or someone writes a mutator to replace it? (hint hint guys)

This is a very good idea. I wrote it down so that I can implement this into the semi-planned configurable items pack. Though it'd be better if Epic implemented this as a patch.

Note sure about the Slowfield, I would think that it gets a bit too easy to use when your team can completely ignore it and just kill enemies that are walking into it. Would like to try it in an actual game though, maybe it turns out to be interesting.

While we're at it: I find the Shield even more useless. Yeah, it can protect one of your nodes for a while (best idea is to hide with your Nightshade inside), but eventually you'll lose the node before the shield goes down and so it either helps the enemy team when they got the node up or it just annoys everyone because it blocks your shots, you can't manage to heal the node properly, people suicide at it etc...
