    Help on LongBow AVRiL again

    Hey there.

I remember someone in another thread explaining to a lot of people that the AVRiL has been used in a wrong way. Can someone enlighten me about the secrets behind the avril again?

if you really dont want the enemy to have time to jump of manta-or whatnot just shoot it pretty close to them never looking to the target and just before it hits lockon. they wont have time to jump off.

Yes. What people refer to as using an AVRIL the wrong way is using the alt-fire to lock on to your target even when it's not necessary. If you don't want your enemy to know where you are then don't hold RMB, because it draws a straight line from you to them. Just passing the crosshair over your opponent is enough to get a lock. You would use the RMB lock if you don't think you can keep your cursor over them, like a fast vehicle.

Sneak attacks: Fire the AVRIL above your opponent and lock on when the AVRIL is over them. This way they have as little warning as possible so they won't be able to bail before being blown to smithereens.

Multi AVRIL attacks: If a friendly team mate fires an AVRIL in the air and doesn't acquire a target, the AVRIL can be "hijacked" by your lock. So the team can launch AVRILS in the air, and leave it up to just one person to lock on. Great for when the person doing the locking is gauranteed death.

Anti-SMPA AVRIL attacks: If you fire an AVRIL and lock on to the SPMA camera, the AVRIL will first go to the camera, and then make a sharp turn and hit the SPMA.

Dodging locked AVRILS: You can't dodge a lock right? But you can drive the AVRIL into an object. The AVRIL will travel to where it will intersect your predicted path, not where you are. So by moving to the side it is possible to evade the AVRIL if there's an object to block it.

Using the 'lock-on' alt fire is obviously best for, ranged only.

Sometimes I just bluff and I lock onto an opponent without actually firing and it ends up giving my team enough time to build a node while the person flies their cicada/raptor away.

i'd always thought i had to use the rmb just to guide the thing - didn't know it was a "lock" mechanism...

Nope, when you hear the beep and 4 lines appear around your crosshair, it's locked. The laser just locks your view on the vehicle
