        The player model is called the Chaos Lord. The weapon is the Gravity Vortex Launcher. Here's another view of the weapon itself;

        The gravity vortex has been a staple of the Chaos mod since '98. It basically shoots out that sphere, which then turns into a mini-black hole that sucks up players and chews them up.

        The 'mini black-hole' effect is not yet created for UT3, here are a couple of example pics from UT2004;

          A design idea for the actual blackhole:
          We have for explosions a nice distortion effect, which seems to curve everything behind it a little bit. My idea is to implement an excessive distortion effect for the blackhole, so it seems that it curves the space (compare Einstein's Relativity theory) :P

                    Thanks for the kind replies.

                    Just posting again to say that some news posts on our site have been recently restored, in case anyone had followed the link in this thread.

                    We and our hosts are clearing up some fancy internet issues, and our site and forums have had hiccups. Forums we hope to have back up soon.

                      The Vortex Launcher has had a bit of tweaking:

                      Also, just FYI- there are 3 positions open at Chaos at this time.

                      1) We are looking for a web designer to bring our site(s) into the UT3 era

                      2) We are also looking for a 'full-time' animator. Someone to help animate some of our original weapons and characters.

                      3) Mappers who are interested / willing to create vehicle DM maps (at least initially focused on them). The position would require design/layout collaboration with our mod team.

                            Update: animation videos - WIP - both vids the same, just different angles -

                            To clarify a bit: The primary fire and secondary fire animations are just run together. It might seem confusing, because the sphere doesn't actually leave the model in the primary fire portion of this sample video. So when viewing, imagine the first time it opens that the sphere shoots out, and that's the primary fire. The secondary fire part is where it's spinning and then the sphere launches out.

                            Primary fire is meant to be faster to use, but more dangerous to the user. Because it fires the sphere faster (no charge-up time), but also closer to you so it's harder to use and still live.

                            Secondary Fire launches the sphere farther away from yourself, so it's easier to live when using the weapon, but it also takes a bit of 'charge-up' time. During which you are sorta vulnerable as well.

                            MacTom is bringing new life to an old Chaos classic. Perfect example of how you can join an existing concept/franchise, and still bring your own bit of genius to the show.

                              Can't wait for this mod I love it Chaos X - The proxy mines in Chaos 2K4 just crack me up. "yippee" I still play Chaos Q2 occasionally.

                              The variety of weapons and thought that has gone into every aspect of all the versions of Chaos I've played has been fantastic.
