    Where is all the color?

Long time ut player can't help noticing that all the ut3 maps are gray, or washed out or muted. Also the maps in closed areas are very dark. If you open them a little with brigtness then they also become grey with no colors.Actually i would call them desaturated and if i could use CS3 Ι would bump up the saturation slider 30-50%. By setting DOF and BLOOM false in the .ini file this helps a lot but you lose all the eye candy.

Wondering if there is some kind of solution to this
Also still expecting the cashe extractor.
Not to mention the Assault mode...
Any word on the patch from Epic?

It is in keeping with the story , since the SP story part has come in for a lot of criticism from both players and the review sites, Epic may relent from the gloom and release some nice blue sky, warmer looking maps (hopefully), letting a bit of sunshine in on the game is what's called for -metaphorically and literally.

An Avalanche WAR summer version with green slopes, and rock fall that can be triggered instead, would be a start.

I agree everything looks a bit washed out. I luckily have a Samsung lcd though and if I used the dynamic contrast ratio mode (which usually makes things look worse) it actually helps a lot making everything more vibrant.

No I dont think I recognize that from any maps...looks "Shangri-la-ish" with vehicles...Or that other Asian VCTF map, but I cant remember the name of it...

Xyx made a mutator that can lower or disable the desaturation in maps - search for "Colour Control" in the Maps and Mods forum. Maybe it'll give the look you're after.

Personally I think the colours are fine, though, and they're not at all washed out on my screen (if anything they're full of sharp contrast, especially on high settings). Some maps have plenty of vibrancy in the right places - take a look at the dramatic sunset the next time you're on Onyx Coast, for example, or the beautiful skyline on Necropolis, both of which are full of colour and contrast. For the most part desaturation is only really used in places where it's appropriate, such as the maps with industrial decay and ruined city themes. If there's any issue with the design, it's just that those themes are overused.

It's a safe bet that there are loads of maps that missed the final cut, they did talk of a much bigger UT3.

Proccessor:AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+2.01 GHz rated @ 5.70 GHz in Florida -what you cooling it with, liquid nitrogen?

Yeah that's true..lol..It's only rated at 5.70 GHz, I dont really know what that means, but I havent overclocked it ..I dont know if I want to, I dont really know much about that, and I know I dont have a very high-end CPU, so I dont know if it could handle Oc'ing it....

It should state: 3800 X2 @ 2 ghz (stock) ; believe me if you could get over 5ghz out of one of those, you should be teaching overclocking for a living

It would also be a world record, so I would think this is either a mistype or a faulty BIOS reading.

Anyhow for the topic, I think the colours fit the theme very well.

Maybe a few new maps shall be inline, brighter maps, though for me the game looks fantastic as it is.

Especially Deck, the classic Arena has been used throughout the whole UT series and the new level design really reflects it.

Oh ok...I always thought it was pretty high, but then again, I was basically "copy and pasting" with my mind from a spec sheet that came with my dell...what does that mean anyway? "Rated at 5.7 GHz"? And do you think i'd even be able to OC it?

I would suggest to change your post processing under advanced video options from "Intense" to "Vivid". I found both in GOW and UT3 that the "intense" setting makes things hazy and dark (perhaps to try and add some realism...I'm not sure), but when I use "Vivid" the colors are better and the hazy fog is gone.
Give it a shot and let me know if you do find it better. Hope this helps.

of COURSE you can overclock it, but you'd better have some really good cooling, as with o/c'ing any chip.

i'm using an Xreme Engineering case, with a 10" fan on the side and a 6" fan in front.

i've got it near 2.4, i think i can get a littler higher if i play withthe voltage some more.....

make sure you have a good temp monitor for it - Asus has one called "PC Probe 2", and make sure your temps don't go much higher than 50-55c under load, i.e., gaming.

when you go to system requirements lab, it will tell you what you're rated at. for me, it says I'm rated at 6.00ghz. for my friend, with an intel E6600 it says he's rated at 9.00ghz

                            but look, for AMD... 3.800 + 2.0 = 5.8, so AMD 3800 + 2.1ghz = 5.8ghz? it's just a guess lol but it works for me too. AMD 4000 + 2.1ghz = roughly 6.1ghz. or it could even be like 4000mhz + 2100mhz = 6100mhz

I'm not sure what you're all using to rate your CPU but I think you should all give CPUz a try (just google CPUz to find it). The rating is not your actual CPU speed but more like the conceptual speed of the two cores.
I have an AMD 64 X2 3800+. When this came out AMD was comparing it to the Intel CPUs at the time and with the name they were saying "this CPU is equivalent in processing power as an intel single CPU chip running at 3.8GHz". The way they worded it from then on is the (CPU speed) X (# of cores). For example one of the new AMD CPUs is the Athlon X2 6400+. The core speed of one CPU is 3.2GhzX2cores=6.4Ghz (or the 6400 in the name). The name of the chip will usually be the conceptual processing speed the manufacturer rates the CPU at.
And like I stated above please try CPUz for an actual speed read out.
