    UT3 Zeroping?

With me having TalkTalk internet I don't have the best ping on any UT3 servers (150 or so) and seeing as I play instagib it's not really working out for me so far. Are there any ZP servers and if so, how do I find them?

    Thanks

Give your ISP a ring, and ask them to take 'Interleaving' off your line. It will half your ping.

I and a few friends phoned our ISP's (Nildram & BT) and had it taken off last week, takes about 3 days. It's usually costs nothing as well.

Not that we play UT3 now anyway. We use to play InstaGib soley. Still with 30 ping our aim sometimes 1-2 inch away from our target. It was never consistant. Coming from a bunch of UT99 Veterans with 'high spec' gaming rigs and cat-like reactions, this was a Huge issue.

    Good luck.

Seems Zeroping for UT3 is gonna take some time & I don't think Epic will have anything to do with it either. Which is a shame for them, because I know a lot of old UT99'ers would cross over to UT3 if it was here & that's a fact .

Is zeroping a term or a mutator?

It essentially gives the illusion of playing with a ping of 0. A bit like offline play although there are a few visual differences and sometimes (rarely) you may shoot someone and they wont die, or you may just miss someone and they will die but that's due to maths calculations I guess. However, it works for me as I'd much rather play with a ping of 0 with a few minor consequences than play with a ping that means I can fire and turn around 180 degrees before the shot has even registered.

Dont mean to be funny but interleaving is there for a reason on ADSL MAX yes sometimes it can be a pain adding anything from 20 to 60ms on average to a ping.. not double.. if u take it off be prepared to possibly face random disconnections as more errored packets are possible.

And if that happens often enough your bras profile may lower down your line rate to compensate for this and your download speeds will decrease.

Usually provides are now done with interleaving set to "AUTO" which basically means if DLM (which is a system that looks after your connection checking your sync rates e.t.c) sees that your line is getting random bursts of noise causing "cells" to be lost then it will turn on interleaving to try and make sure that only parts of packets are lost thus causing a slight decrease in sync rate and ping time but an overall more stable connection...especially useful for watching videos online and voip e.t.c

To be honest if your getting a ping of 150 to uk servers its not interleaving thats the issue.. IMO it would be poor routing between your isp and "the internet". try doing a traceroute to bbc.co.uk and see how many hops it takes, if its more than 10 -15 its a routing issue and im afraid there is likely not much your going to be able to do about it.

Also with you being with talktalk u might get cheap broadband but your getting what you pay for IMO, talk talk is a llu and therefor deal with all the routing and not BTW so its a good chance when you come out the btw network im not even sure if it even goes through there... and in to talktalks traffic is poorly managed causing high latency.

my isp has interleaving off and in any other game i would never ping higher than 40 on uk, german and dutch servers, now i can ping up to 60 most of the time and and thats just a huge disadvantage.
with a ping of 150 obviously its much worse but for the first time i think i would consider zp a good thing.
never needed or liked it in ut1 but this ut seems to be messing with my ping somehow.

Every ADSL connection can use interleaving. Its an errorchecking mode. At request they can usually turn it off, if your line is error free enough. ( city - good. some village - forget it)

Don't forget not all DSLAMs can support fast channel even if you're ISP is willing to re-provision your line and your connection is clean and error free. Some on the other hand are set to fast channel by default. You can usually telnet into your modem and see if you're provisioned on fast channel or interleaving:

                    [shot]http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x106/emig5m/PC/fastchannel_02.png[/shot]

Lucky for me the DSLAM my connection comes out of is set to fast channel by default. The main annoying thing about zero ping or enhanced netcode is being shot and killed well after visually on your screen you jump/dodge behind a wall and then get hit! I'd rather just flat out lag then deal with the visual inconsistencies of zero ping/enhanced netcode. Although I played on UTcomp/enhanced netcode servers in UT2004, I really like the feel of UT III's default netcode. Not too laggy, and no getting shot after you dodge behind a wall. Oh and I know what playing with a high ping is - try it with low throughput too on 56k dialup! (which I played UT2004 for a good eight months on dialup before a remote DSLAM was installed here)

yeah, but well its quite pointless to discuss as the only reliable way to check it is to ask the ISP.

I won't bother making any phone calls then because I do appreciate a decent download speed. Also, in UT1 my ping is decent enough although I still prefer to use zp cos you cannot beat a ping of 0 UT3 like others have said, gives me a much higher ping of double or more so either there aren't enough well configured servers yet or UT3 is just not as good for online play.

If the PC UT3 community wants to attract players from other games we're going to need a zeroping mod. Not every gamer is an inbred, xenophobic, UT99 hippie who is perfectly fine with a 15 year old netcode model...

                              No we don't.
They aren't playing UT3 because of something as minor as feature that makes writing aimbots easier.
They aren't playing UT3 because the style of this game only appeals to hippies on crack.
Fix that and you will see more players ... however that is even more unlikely than an aimbot-assist like client-side hit-detection.
