    Your UT3 PS3 Ping?

To all the PS3 users, tell me what is your ping?

If you search DM or CTF ect. games, what kind of pings are showing?
    Lowest, highest and average?

in my case the lowest are 200+ and the highest 2500 (400)
    Im from europe.

NEVER had high pings on resistance, no matter what, always felt like you are playing offline!

15 was the lowest for a non midway server. Normally midway servers i join are around 30-60 but at times those servers that are normally 30-60 jump to 90-150. highest is a 2500 ping also

I've see 33 for the lowest, and I can usually get right into a room in the 60's to 90's for TDM/DM. Just to let you know though, those rooms that say 2500 aren't really 2500. I think there is some problem with the servers reporting ping, because if you refresh a few times you'll see a server reporting 2500 go down to 67 sometimes.

I don't really know if I trust any of the ping numbers anymore, because there are times I join a 2500 server and it's great, and times when I join an almost full server at 52 ping and it's bad.

I'm from Europe too and I always get few servers with 2500, many servers with 200+, few with 100+ and sometimes one with like 80.

But it's no miracle as the game is not out in europe yet. So the most servers are hosted by americans.

Sounds like some of you Europeans need to start some servers :-P. The official midway servers are in NA only... I assume until the game is released in Europe officially.

I've been having the same issue. I have a superb cable modem connection through Comcast, and I have pinged dozens of servers for other PC games in the 10-30ms range. Imagine my horror when I'm finding that my first foray into online PS3 gaming is giving me pings of 250ms-2500ms. Joining games I'm finding some good gameplay, but it's frequently interrupted by second-long delays in firing a weapon.

I found this thread through a search. I came here hoping that I'd find I had my router set up wrong, or that Wifi wasn't suitable for online play. But, I seriously doubt that's the problem, as I just tried Resistance a short time ago and it plays wonderfully. Is there some way to tell where the servers are located? I know that's sort of immaterial when you're looking at pings, but I was so shocked by the ridiculous ping times that I became concerned that I was somehow hooked up to servers on a different continent or something.

Well it is were you live mate if you live far away from the server it's going to take along time for you're command to ping to the server if you're living right next to the guy with the server it's going to take a very short time and also try configuring you're net work connections into the options menu..

When I host, my rooms tend to be around 30, rising to around 80-100 , but more so when laggy people have joined - but then they just get booted anyway, so soon evens up again. If anyone from here has been btw, its purely for that reason and I appologise!

on the ps3 i see 2 servers below 100(not by much tho), 4 below 200, rest ridiculously high

i ping lower in ut2004 and tf2, never need to join a server higher then 40 in tf2 and 80 in ut2004.

Well, it seems I'm not the only one having the issue. RoadKill's description sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing.

How is the online community expected to survive if pings are reported as this high, erroneously or not? How are we supposed to judge which servers will provide the best play? I'd rate this as a major defect in the game, or the server software--whichever is ultimately to blame. I just hope it doesn't get lost in the sea of other minor complaints.

Remember, playing later on in the Evening, around 8-9 GMT, you will see a lot more European Servers up and running that you do now. Bearing in mind its lunch time, and people are at work or school, there are not going to be that many people playing UT based in Europe. I know later for sure a load of EU players are going on, as we arranged a fun night... check out www.consolegaming.eu , and the UT Forum section...sign up and have a post or two there

I played on your iCTF server last night and I had around 30-40 ping. EU servers are between 20-100 on my connection. I sometimes see Midway servers with a ping <150 but most of the time they are way above that.

I can also verify that 2500 ping servers don't always look / behave like you would think. I played many already which ran very smooth. Problem with the ping value in the server browser is that it doesn't give you a good indication on how stabile the pingrate is. I entered many servers which looks like 60 ping servers in the browser (even after refreshing) but acted very laggy after entering. Its better to have a solid higher (150 max) ping than a ping that fluctuates. We cannot do any deep testing on the PS3 but I think I witnessed servers which ping fluctuated between 60-300 during play.

VHCTF and Warfare modes are generally more laggy than TDM/CTF rooms anyway... something to do witht he vehicles, it just means you pretty much cant do more than 5v5 on either mode.

I thought 2500 Ping rooms were the Midway servers? They are the only ones i go into when I am not hosting, as the lag isnt too bad. Still slight bullet delay, but just about bearable. Most other rooms you have a 2 second delay, and there is nothing you can do about it.
