    Zero Ping server--what is it?

Does the PC or PS3 version of UT3 utilise zero-ping servers? And if so how does that work?

At what value for ping does a zero ping server start to struggle?

If my ping is 360 to a Zero-ping server, would you say that I'm at a big disadvantage?

If it wasn't a zero ping server then it's obvious that it would be nearly a half second delay but on a zero ping server how fair would that be if you were playing a dual game?

This doesn't exist yet for UT3 as far as I know.

What a zero-ping server is where the server goes by the player's PC game to determine if you hit the opponent or not. Even though you have a ping of 360, there is no delay in your shots. This has caused problems I hear and split the community on this matter.

What happens is people with low ping will see you and duck behind a corner, thinking you didn't see them so that they can sneak up on you. The player with the high ping has a second delay, and sees the opponent, fires and kills him. The low ping player is then scratching his head as to why he died behind the corner. This can also be reversed with the low ping player jumping out from behind the corner and kills you quickly. You with your high ping will just die for no reason then see the player jump out and shoot where you use to be.

oh wow, I understand now. Thanks for the explanation.

Was netcode a zero-ping system, or was that something totally different?

umm every online game uses netcode. zero ping itself is a type of netcode, but netcode itself just means how game events are handled between a client and server.

lol with 360 ping your at a disadvantage no matter the netcode, I wouldnt even play with that ping.

Kronos is 100% correct. But, if you want to play with people around the globe a zero-ping server is your best bet.

                Quick notes:

Listen Server: This is a sever setup by the player. It gives the person that setup the server a major advantage in that he/she is playing with actual "0" ping.

Dedicated server: This is a server that "somewhat" levels the playing field for all that connect to it. However, as with all servers, the lower the ping you play with the better.

Both server types can run the "zero-ping" mod on them but the same advantages still apply in both cases. It's best if you stay clear of any "listen" type servers.

If "zero-ping" is what Source uses... I loathe it. It absolutely sucks. Real men don't complain if your ping is ten milliseconds longer than the one's who just pwned you.

10 miliseconds no... 100 miliseconds yes. Zeroping allows us to play against even north america, its great

Zero-ping is amazing, and in my opinion absolutely necessary for instagib. However, it should automatically kick people with a high ping to avoid problems from happening.

Sounds pretty annoying and unfair for both sides. o_O I'd rather play with 150 ping than with Zero ping, given that I really understand the way it works. :/

Thus zero-ping would be useless if everyone would have small latency. Seriously, zero-ping is just annoying and unfair. Just try playing CS and you'll see how bad it is. I rather have a bit of latency than some non-synced ****zel. I don't see what's the problem with the current netcode.

People that have low latency to each other play nonzp. Nationcups or people that are from far away, play eachother with zp. Its just better that way.

real men dont complain when they cant use their ping to an advantage because of zero-ping
