    We Need Co-Op

Epic said it themselves that they'd have it in there, main reason i bought this after hearing haze was delayed again. I also bought 2 more controllers for my buddies to play since they have xbox. so i should really be ****** considering i spent 160 dollars for this game! i need an explination and there better be a patch including it or i'm gonna have to return it and wait for hazes co op glory

The demand is clearly there for it (just look at this thread).
Exactly. I mean, what would have happened if GeOW didn't had split screen?

It wouldn't have sold nearly as much as it did. Co-op/split screen MADE that game.

(I realize this is an xbox mag, but I think this should most definitely apply for the PS3 as well)

          From page 51
" "Our plan is to support up to four-person coop in the single player game," says (Steven) Polge . "That was one of the nice things that Gears validated--yeah we're not the only ones who think co-op is cool. We're also going to support split-screen, but it's going to be much easier to do four-person co-op than it is to support two player split-screen. But those are both definites. Multiplayer is an important part of UT, so there's no risk or issues there. "

"Multiplayer is generally online these days, or LAN."

This is sadly becoming more and more true for this generation. And I hate that.

i miss the days of playing with friends and family in the same room on the same screen.

Theres no reason why we can't have both. Split screen for this game is a MUST. Especially considering it was "confirmed" multiple times in the past.

I've heard this also in some interviews with Epic dudes on youtube. So much for the risks and issues...

This gives further validation to the rumors that Epic took the easy way out, and did not include split-screen in order to get this game out before the end of 2007.

I just don't buy that. I'm the conspiracy type of guy maybe, but this sounds fishy to me...

                        Patch from a developer perspective

For those of you crossing your fingers hoping for a patch, I'm sorry to say it's impossible. As a game developer, I know the task of tapping into a close source game disc to access information to backward engineer and change internal functions of this magnitude is next to impossible.

Now looking at it from an economic point of view. We know that Christmas is comming around the corner and companies find themselves burdened with the task of rushing out a game in time to ride the holiday spirit. So why you ask we have no splitscreen? Because the PS3 version is just a SIMPLE PORT of the PC version with a simple conversion of programming code due to difference in hardware. It is the cheapest way. Get a Port of the PC version, depend on consumer confidence over past titles such as ut 2003 for support, depend on rumor of splitscreen patch, and you instantly have millions of copies sold.

What we should do is to realize this and don't blindly buy the game and hope for that patch. From a software engineering point it is impossible of this magnitude and from a ecomonical point, it's too costly. Once you pay for the game that is it. Anymore addition the compamy make to the game is just money leaking from their wallet. The only reason they would have to patch games is to save reputation to further increase sales. From what EPIC has decided so far do you think they care about reputation? They rushed a game PORTED from the PC in "limited supplies" to PS3 owners without further addition (ex splitscreen consideration). Why limited supplies? It's to test out gamers response or else they would have done just a normal release if not a huge release for his highly anticipated game. They were unsure and did not want to swallow the extra production cost if not all discs are not being sold because of the lack of splitscreen.

The best you can hope for now is that they change the internal structure of the game and release a NEW DISC with splitscreen enabled. However doing so is the same as publically announcing that "yes we made and mistake." That would decrease their reputation.

What is most likely to happen is EPIC will go silence in regards to splitscreen patch and do nothing to save face and money. Players will unknowingly buy the game and be mislead to false hope. EPIC release a new platformer like Gears of War 2 and suddenly all the negative impact from UT3 of PS3 dissipates.

If you are a fan of splitscreen then send them a message. Send them a message that says it's not ok to sacrafice consumer trust for profit. Don't blindly buy the game.

I would expect EPIC to delete this post to save face soon or later so if you see the wrongs that I see then please do spread the message of this post. Inform the gaming community so that we may fight back as a whole and become a voice that not just only speak justice to EPIC's ears, but also to their wallets (their truer ears).

I can understand that the PS3 crowd feels left in the cold, but please don't plaster it all over the forum, one thread is enough.

We PC guys got your horrible UI so it's fair I guess.

Your point being? I mean, I'm not crying. I just don't understand the lack of split screen. I personally don't really miss it, but since GeOW got it, UT3 should have had it. Will be funny when 360 does get split screen in 2008...

Epic gave that to you, just like how epic axed split screen, don't whine to us.
