Unreal only has head blown off or full gibbing, and the arm blown of on one female model. I'm sure of it.

I think ut99's gibbing was almost better, from what I remember parts of their body would fly everywhere and you had skidding bleeding chunks of flesh.

What is wrong with wanting the level of detail in the graphics to get better? They figure out ways for surfaces, lighting, meshes, etc. to look better and more realistic with each generation of game. A lot of people seem to want to just write off gore as irrelevant. Would you write off dynamic lighting, reflective surfaces, relief mapping, etc. because they're not "necessary?"

Except you can have a pretty game without gore at all, witness CoD4. You can't have a pretty game without dynamic lighting, reflective surfaces, etc.
Saying gore is necessary in an action game is like saying plot is necessary in a ***** - it's nice but completely unneeded.

Actually, you could blow off the upper torso of a player in Unreal 1, and leave the legs unharmed. I used to do this by jumping and shooting a secondary flak on their chest.

Hm, looks pretty "clean" for a spot where a body was dismembered, I'm not particularly impressed.
well the thing is your not a graphics designer... so unless you can do better i would just keep your yap shut, the way its dong it now is fine with me

but i do think the arena should show some signs of mess, constant gibbing in an area is going to build up, yeah tey look grungy but blood build up would show.
more gibbs, more blood, you are using very powerfull weapons and the gibbs don't reflect that enough

They should have similar effects to the vehicle damage were you can tell they are damaged.

Like on doom when you get damaged.

It would be pretty good to shoot off limbs and when you get blown up your blood should splatter all around and bits of your armor fly about and stuff.

About the 'oh noe system cant handle issue'.

Ive played gmod with a whole map covered in gibs and bodies on a full server on full detail settings and i didnt get any lag.

Yes, fair enough, but I'm not calling for more gore. What I'm saying is, if they're going to have it, isn't it time we had a better looking effect for it? If gore is going to be a part of your game, wouldn't you want it to look as visually impressive as the rest of the fancy graphics?

And if you guys all still think I'm simply a gorehound, back in the 2k4 days, I requested in the forums a mutator that removes the gibbing effect because I thought it looked dumb. Somebody made it for me, and I used it all the time. I thought solid bodies falling down looked a lot better than meat beach balls, so I was happy with less "gore."

For me, it's not about gore, exactly, it's about impact. When I shoot something, to see something dramatic happen. I just don't consider simple gibbing to be all that dramatic anymore. It's too disconnected or something, compared to how much more can be done these days.

I know some people think that's superficial fluff, but come on, they put tons of time into all sorts of purely aesthetic elements, why not this?

Seeing as this game happens to be called UNREAL Tournament, I'd prefer something effectful rather than realistic.

I mean, come on! Pulling shock combos and ripping people apart mid-air hasn't been this fun in ages!

I agree, it's about effect, not realism. I just don't think gibbing is all that "effectful." There are plenty of unreal sci-fi ways we could be blasting the **** out of eachother, that could be much more exciting than a handful of gibs bouncing around.

That's a good way of putting it. I'm not saying it should packed with buckets and buckets of gore, or that they should hire a forensics consultant to have true-to-life realism, I just want something that looks good.

+1. It's like WTF... body dismembered without any blood?!

The Krall is the less worse since the gibbing parts are quite big, then there is the human that is also unimpressive but not too bad and the worst of all... the Liandri Robots. When I blow a robot, there is like no blood/oil at all and even almost no chunk of robot at all, almost like if he would just disapear.

I was the first one to complaint against gibbing/blood when the Beta came out. I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who noticed are horrible was the effect. Hell... even in Quake 3 which is from 1999, looks better!

The only improved thing in gibbing from UT2004 to UT3 is that you can now blow dead corpse but it's nothing amazing when you consider that an old game like Q3 already allowed you to do it. (-_-)

The robot gibs are ridiculously horrible. They go from being a vast amount of metal in a humanoid shape to.......umm, I don't know. I guess the only accurate way to describe it is, a couple of watches thrown on the floor.
