What is a "shock combo"?

How do you do it? I've been playing UT3 for about 5 days now (not including the time on the demo) but I don't know what a shock combo is...lol.

If you press the right mouse button while holding the shock rifle you will shoot a shock ball - if you destroy this ball by shooting it with the shock primary (left mouse button) you create a shock combo. Enjoy!

Fire shock secondary (that ball is called the shock core) and hit the core with your shock primary fire... the explosion it creates is the shock combo which is quite powerful in close and mid range.

You didn't even see other people do it so far?

Using the Shockrifle (duh!) you fire Secondary Fire (moving shockball) then you hit that Shockball (before it touches anything else) with Primary Fire (Shockbeam) and voila you get a large explosion that sucks anything near it into the center and gibs it.

Also, doing a combo while moving is considered way more skilled than doing a standing combo. Plus hitting a good moving combo that gets a frag is waaay satisfying.

lol @ the "I'm good at the game but..." comments.. just admit that you don't know everything yet; basically the Shombo (that's the community abbreviation for Shock Combo) is where we separate the good from the bad players so get started

The shock combo is the attack that you would use to defend a flag if you were playing flag defense (camping it) and it's also the attack that most of the pro players use by default.

Instead of having to have excellent aim like you would with the sniper rifle, you try to predict where your opponent is going, fire a secondary shock ball in that direction, and then, at the right time, hit it with the shock primary. It's easiest to do this if you're standing still when you fire (aka, "stand-still combo"). You can also fire the shock ball level with the ground and and keep running straight (or back up straight) at it without turning your aim before you fire your shock primary.

If you have excellent hand-eye coordination you can eventually learn how to do moving combos. That is, you fire the shock ball at someone, then you move out of the way so it's harder to get hit and then you try to hit that first ball with the shock primary. For now you probably shouldn't focus on trying to do moving combos. I've been playing for years and I don't have the hand-eye coordination needed to do it.

Shock combos are also the best way to deal with superior numbers, imo... when 3 or more guys are attacking you, move backwards, dodge while doing so and "spam" some cores... it looks like you're trying to escape, but while you back away from their rox and stuff, you're already planning which core to combo. It's quite simple, but still nearly everyone falls for that (and tries to follow you) and it's the way I do 50% of my kills on foot. ;D
