I think it's ridiculous that loading the menus has to load that blurred map every time. It takes too long. When i disconnect from a server/map to go back to the menu/server browser, bring me there INSTANTLY. That long wait EVERY time is just for that stupid blurred picture behind them? Geez... talk about form before function. And the form isn't even really that nice looking. Slow AND ugly. And a rip off of Valve's blurred-levels when launching HL2, btw.. it's not even original.

UWindows, please! Or, really, anything other than this menu system. Everything about it is really bad.

I really, really want some way to turn off the background map behind the menu, but I haven't been able to find any .ini option to do so.

Ironically...the DoF in that background map makes it look like it's smeared with Vaseline anyway, so what's the point? You can't see anything at all back there - it's just a blurry mess.

Yeah, it would be great if we could switch it off, i dont see the needs to have both my cores running 100% without even being able to see what that thing in the background is .

Yay.
          Cursor Up, Enter.

          No mouse needed.

The beta patch sorted the slugish menus for me. I haven't played online yet though, I read that there are no servers for a patched client so install at your own risk.

I would like an option to disable the 3d menu, like the TF2 beta had before they scrapped the 3d menus completely.

I think I recall reading (but don't quote me on this) that the server does not have to be running the patch even if you have it on the client?

Why do I need to have blurred-beyond-recognition stuff going on behind my menu anyway?

                    I agree completely.

I don't want to have to "load" the menu like a map. And it should take as long as it does. The menu is so simple yet it takes longer to "load" than most of the games playable maps.

Here's a request for the next beta of patch 1:

An option to disable the map in the background an instead have a static image (of what i don't really know, maybe configurable?)

                      Just getting that out there.

Totally agree! Lame that it has to load back everytime you leave a match. Lame design for lame cosmetics! This is'nt windows vista guys, keep it XP! A single picture of your cool overhyped bullshots would be fine I guess! At least we can compare what it should've looked like everytime we leave a low texured map

I wonder if there's any way the menu map could be replaced with a cube map or something. Considering on higher settings you can barely see the map through all the haze I'm bewildered why they did it in the first place. I wonder if this is also why the menu takes so long to load up.

You know what is really gay? When a match end, we get transfered to a 2D menu and I get 3x WORSE frame per seconds than when I'm rendering 3D stuff.

How is it possible to have a 2D picture lag more than a full 3D map?!?

You need to edit UTFrontEnd.ut3 and replace the level geometry with something simple. (ie, one of those billboards with random images - that would at least give it variety) Oh, and disable DoF in the map volume!

Don't just replace the file with another one or you'll lose ALL your menu's! :P

                              -----------------------

[Edit] Well, I can see why it takes so **** long to load. There's 6 separate areas in the main menu. (hence the 60Mb file)

                              - Corridors or gray blurry **** - the one we all know and hate
                              - The character modification screen - a nice Japanese-style setting
                              - A Persian/Necris style area (also has a character pose spot in it, as do the others)
                              - another one with some hooded figure
                              - A techy sorta room
                              - somthing with rocks in it (good description, eh!)

The majority of these are not necessary for general main menu kinds of everyday use, so why on earth put them in there to slow it all down?

In any case, I tried modifying the Post-Processing Volume to tone down the ludicrous amount of blur, but couldn't save the level due to something being missing.

                              I shall persist!
