    Destroying Spider Mines?

So today I played a game where someone had put a Spider Mine Trap at a choke point, as is logical to do. The logical thing for me to do is to destroy the trap so it can't spawn any more mines, but I couldn't do it. I unloaded a full Rocket Launcher into it, to no effect, so I picked up more ammo and threw that at it too, which had a similar lack of effect.

Do you have to just wait for them to expire on their own or is there a way to dispose of them?

    They expire on their own..

To me, this is fair as there's only 1 place in each map where you can get them and they have 1 charge, so logically they shouldn't be destroyed by just doing damage.

The thing you can do to avoid them however is to jump like a madman trying to avoid them

      I question your logic.

If you're on the ball enough to spot them, you should have a reasonable chance to destroy them before they destroy you.

Spider mines should have invisibility...........spot that.

Well the spiders aren't, their "nest" is for some reason, put it at a node and it's yours to keep for the duration of the nest, and the nightshade can put down 2, and can put them back again when they expire, aka a nightshade can make a node invulnerable to people on foot.

one trap has 16 spidermines so you could try to destroy the mines one by one, until the trap has no mines left

That sounds like a plan, how many come out at once, I would think you could take care of them pretty easily with a rocket launcher.

So I guess they really wouldn't make a node invincible that long.

They come out at about one per second as long as someone is near, but the trap still lasted long enough for me to waste 20 or so rockets on it. The spiders themselves blow up quite easily, but they're small dark and fast, which makes it hard to see if you've dealt with them all.

Oh god spider mines. They follow you everywhere ^^

The first time i was pursued by a bunch of spiders, i just hoverboarded out of range (i thought so ;D). A second later i had a Drill in my face ^^

If I notice them... I just run backwards whilst dodging from side to side when they get close and try to kill them. I think they explode on your own if they dont catch you after a short while.

It sucks that they are a trap to start with, they should have kept them as a gun. I also miss the grenade launcher, it was fun to use sometimes.

You know, I loved the spidermine gun in UT2004. As fun as it was to kill people with it, I believe the new system is better. Now there's just a few mines, and I don't have to worry about an entire team of people tossing mines everywhere - that just gets old.

No one's commented on it yet, so I will: Dying via spider mine is really funny in UT3! Having the spider latch onto your face and I guess choking you to death is hilarious. I would love to see what it looks like in third person.

The trap itself is very hard to spot, and spiders are faster and much more tenacious (they've followed me across most of large VCTF maps before). The inability to destroy the next is ridiculous, especially coupled with the Nightshade's ability to keep two separate nests active at any given moment.
