It's not overpowered, however the fact that IT MAKES NO NOISE is ridiculous. I really hope Epic does something about these horrible vehicle sounds!!
The sound in general is pretty appalling. It's almost impossible to hear anyone approaching until their stacked rockets are in the air heading your way. Easier time hearing people, including vehicles, please.
A poll like this will only demonstrate that different people have different ideas about what is "powerful" and "overpowered".
Many people will claim that it's not overpowered because:
You just need to spend 15 seconds looking for the AVRiL every time you spawn and then hope you get lucky.
You just need to hit it with shock 7 times in a row.
You just need to EMP it twice.
You just need to have half your team hose it with stinger.
You can grab one yourself and take it out (after a 3-minute duel, giving up and instead deciding to roadkill the entire enemy team).
Vehicles should be powerful.
It takes skill.
It was nasty in UT2004 too.
The tank is "old technology".
It just needs better sound.

In my book, all of that pretty much underlines the fact that it's overpowered, but to each his own.
You're forgetting liars who tell "X is perfect no need to change it" because they want unbalanced gameplay cause they enjoy picking (mostly only) overpowered weapons to frag the others with ease ; then they call you a noob, amazingly
manta, stinger : same **** on and on in these forums.
seeing number of online players, ut3 is following q4's fate, epic should do some gameplay moves quickly aside fixing bugs and obvious missing features.

well i don't think people are complaining about the weapons on it being to powerful.. its more so about how fast the thing can turn and react making it much more difficult dodge a manta or get shot on it as the manta is by far faster then any reaction time from a player. taking down a manta can only be done either with avial, minigun, or a very lucky shot from rox or flak rifle..
But comparing the manta to other vehicles the manta really isn't the best one to grab heh.
Not strictly overpowered. Running over capability and firepower is fine.
It's problem is the lack of momentum transferred when hit by projectiles. In a confined space in ut2004, momentum would take it against a wall with a side blast that made it trapped and vulnerable. Rockets, and shock combos also do far less dammage than was, and the shock ball doesn't push it enough.
So now in a confined space it is extremely tricky to deal with.
Solution
- Slightly increased momentum taken for damage by mantas and vipers.
- Flak, Rocket, and Shock do slightly more damage to manta and viper.
Should do it. It all sepends on what slightly means. But I'm 1000% a supporter of small tweaks and often, rather than a big overcompensating nerf.

manta is fine. it has its pros and it has its cons. like any other vehicules or weapons ^^
I cant wait till the author of SwapTool comes out with the UT3 version so I can get rid the manta. Noobs just use to run over people. It takes no f...'n skill to run over people!! With SwapTool I can get rid of the manta completely and swap it out for another vehicle lets say a Dark Walker or what ever. Ill do that on my server thats for **** sure as soon at it comes out!!
the problem with a poll such as this is that it will not give an actual objective take on the balance of the manta. most people are not going to be educated enough to know the impact things such as the ridiculously high ROF or very high damage output do to the game. futhermore most people are going to be far too amused by the OMG I CAN RUN THESE PEOPLE OVER REALLY EASY factor that the manta presents to actually logically think about the manta in terms of balance.
with all that said the manta is too powerful but only 1 major fix is needed and 1 or 2 very minor fixes. the major fix being the sound of course but the entire game suffers from this issue. the 1 or 2 minor fixes are the ROF and te damage output. the ROF could easily be lowered by 1/4 and make a significant impact. if the ROF isnt changed then the dmaage output should be lowered by 1/5 so instead of 25 damage per hit it would do 20. both of these changes are reasonable and would have a signifcant impact in balancing the manta.
actually this is not even close to true when it comes to mantas, i mean sure, in the beginning anyone can run people over if your running over n00bs. but to be a true skilled manta driver is an art form. most people are average manta drivers, few have mastered it. you may think "omfg this is teh gay, its so easy to get run over, and i get run over all the time cause i don't know how to fight vehicles..." but just like every other weapon out there, mantas have there strengths and weakenses, and mantas take time be mastered, as well as mantas can be killed by a skill person on foot rather quickly...lol.
The secret in flying a manta is never to be still enough to make yourself vulnerable. The good pilots often won't hit you the first time, because they don't make small corrections.
They can't be killed quickly by footsoldiers. That's why it's being addressed in the patch.
I agree the knockback fixes in the patch will help make the manta easier to deal with on foot, although I'm not complaining about it. I like it the way it is.
All other things aside, there are so many scorpions scattered on many of the maps that the mantas become null and void, as long as someone is driving around in a scorpion.
If you could kill the manta easily with any weapon all the time, it wouldn't be any fun to drive, or to kill. Maybe all of you naysayers would be happy if it was given 5 health, so you can bring it down with the enforcer.
No it is not overpowered. All you need is Avril, and if you dont have an avril all you need is a minigun. (minigun alt fire pushes the manta back so it cant reach you). May that not be a success.. with good timed dodges you can dodge the manta, walk to the left and the moment you see the manta turning left you dodge right and he passed you.
I was thinking that exactly. According to this forum everything is overpowered - and nobody has mastered the Necris vehichles yet, but already they appear very strong......
